How much does your gravel bike weigh? (why are they so heavy?)

Interesting, what size frame is this? And what tires? I guess this is roughly in line with my size 61 Fuji Jari Carbon which I have described in the post above, same weight wheels, similar groupset etc...

My 2021 S-Works Crux weighs 15.75 lbs (7.15 kg) with Red/XX1 AXS, an E.13 Helix 9-50 cassette, Nextie/240 wheels, 35c Hutchinsons, 140mm Ashima rotors, E.13 XCXr cranks, Whisky No.9 12F bars, Tune Geiles Teil 4.0 stem, Specialized Alpinist post, and an S-Works Romin Evo. That weight also includes two Enve bottle cages, a Wahoo speed sensor, Wahoo cadence sensor, and a Wahoo Elmnt Bolt head unit/mount.

My previous carbon gravel bike, a Scott Addict Gravel 20, was 14.75 lbs (6.7 kg) with Force 1, EC90s, and a 3T 9-32 cassette.

And here is my current ride, the 2021 S-Works Crux at 15.75 lbs.


Not the best photo of the Crux but it's all I've got with the current parts spec. I recently switched from a Terra post to an Alpinist and dropped 0.10 lbs. (I should add that the Crux weighs 15.75 lbs with both Enve cages, a Wahoo speed sensor, cadence sensor, and out front handlebar mount.)

I'm using the 3T 9-32T. Virtually the same range as yours (355.55%) mine agains 360% yours but it is allowing me to use a small RD like the Sram Red short cage, just a little bit modified to 'Type 2' style to clear the bigger 32T (I managed to shift a 39T with the mod as well). The combo is very light: 135.5g for the RD and 223.8g for the cassette, AND...it is also electronic operated by the X-shifter!

Thats crafty! I have the 9-32 too, but keep it on my road wheels, so I dont need to swap front rings.

Thats a light combo you have. Im happy with the GRX rd for now, I use a 10-42 cassette with my 650B wheels also.

I'll do a build thread when my new bar arrive, 110 was too big of a reach for me...

Mine is 9kg as pictured in a size 51
things swapped over from stock were Farsport 1330g wheelset, carbon seatpost from my Izalco Max and Ritchey aluminum bars

I guess tires make a big difference (and you have big tires), some bikes in this thread seem to run road tires...that can easily make a few hundred grams difference.

Similar for pedals, some people ride road pedals. I just like the reliability of my XT pedals (which you also seem to use) and need to get off the bike occasionally to carry or push it, so road pedals aren't an option...XT pedals aren't the lightest, though.

Yes I think the 3T 9-32 is perfect for road. Here in Boulder the 32T pretty much covers all the routes I do, some dirt roads here and there but I’m mostly on the road. Since my preferred riding is forever pursuing my PR on mountain climbing, I’m really happy to be achieved 12.66lbs on 34mm tire for my setup.

yeha makes sense. The WTB tyres i have on now are around 520g each
i like the reliabilty of XT pedals. Never tried XTR pedals though.

I have never tried XTR pedals either, the weight difference is pretty minimal and I would guess there is no difference in terms of function. This said, some CX racers appear to favor XT pedals over XTR for supposedly better mud-shedding...no idea if that's true...

Interesting. The latest gen of XTRs are supposed to have better mud shedding (due to smaller bearings or axles I believe) than XTs etc. As well as a slightly lower stack height. Those things make them more desirable than XT for CX racing
