How much does your gravel bike weigh? (why are they so heavy?)

The spirit of Grav-lo-cross. No but seriously, cyclocross and gravel go here!

Of course...

Not sure what is your gravel bike, so hard to answer the question... If it's the Giant I saw, you mentioned 7.7kg, so that's just 200g, and looks like tires, saddle, wheel, crankset are much heavier on yours, so not really surprising...

The MTB world realized long ago that weight off road is not that big of an issue. Light bikes, with light wheels and tires get bounced around a lot.

Meant to post this here originally... My Giant TCX is 8.51kg with wheels, 5.46kg without

I've tried to do this build on a budget as much as possible, but would be good to know if there's any "easy" ways to drop a bit more weight without spending mega money. Suggestions welcome!

Giant TCX Advanced Pro
SRAM Rival Shifters, Mech
PG1130 Cassette (swapping for XG1271 shortly)
SRAM Red 22 crankset with Wolf Tooth chainring
Hope RX4 Calipers
Easton EC70 Bars
Specialized S-Works Toupe Saddle
XT Pedals
Cheapo Carbon Bottle Cages
Scribe Gravel Wide++ Wheelset
Schwalbe G-One R 700x45

8.5kg is pretty good with 45mm tyres, once you've changed the cassette there's probably nothing significant to be saved without resorting to a lot more exotic components. If you're running 11 speed not sure a 1271 will work btw, you'll want a SRAM XX1 XG-1199 / 1195 if you want a super-light (11 speed) off road cassette.

How you finding G-one R?

Okay good to know I've got it to a decent weight. I'm going to use one of those Ratio Technology kits to convert it to 12speed, hence the new cassette. Might eventually upgrade the shifters and derailleur to AXS as well.

I've found the tyres pretty good, prefer them to the G-One Allrounds I had previously. I try and avoid wet/muddy weather as much as possible, so don't need something grippier. Saying that, I may get something a bit narrower next time as clearance is very tight around the chainstays.

When you update rotors swithing to 140mm Centerline X rotors instead of 160mm Centerline XR's will save 40 grams. Add some ti bolts while you are at it. Eggbeater 11 pedals will save 160g.

I would think that it's not worth the bother to go further at that point. The weight delta of reducing your braking power etc will not make a smidge if difference compared to a bit of mud on the tires which I guess may happen if going to the effort of protecting the chainstay with the inner tubes and fitting that rear mudguard. I'd focus instead on making things super comfy.

Thanks all. The switch up to 12spd and 10-44 cassette has bumped the weight up a little bit, but I'm looking forward to having the additional range for climbing. Not keen to drop back to 140mm rotors, although may consider a lighter 160mm option when the current ones need replacing.

Looks like my next purchase will have to be a saddle as I've noticed the shell on mine is cracked, unfortunately.

6.78g on my Feedback hanging scale.
Built for dry trails and road to get to there so I was able to keep the weight down with fairly light tires.
This will be replaced soon by the new Crux. Plans include lighter wheelset and 1x drivetrain but adding PM.
