I have the same question. But more about chainstay clearance. Here is my 52/36 Dura-Ace chainring mounted. There's 2mm of clearance. How much do you guys need to feel comfortable? I will note there is a 1mm driveside space on there to push it outboard. Don't want to add another one.
Edit: Also of note, this is a Rotor inner chainring. It's about 0.5mm thinner than the Shimano inner chainring.

Multiple hints go to a Crux update next year. This summer a new Aethos might come. How that will look might indicate what the changes to the Crux could be. I think UDH should be implied. Other than that, maybe integrated housing as this is what many consumers want. Don't think it could become any lighter. Maybe some tweaks in geometry, although that geo is pretty damn nailed already.
I personally wish they would back to a CX geo. Shorter wheelbase, higher BB, steeper head angle. I think they went too far gravel. They have the Diverge. Keep the Crux as a CX bike. Interesting how approaches differ: I would still lower the bb, lower the top tube to have more exposed seattube, slacken the headangle for 1 degree, and have cable routing as is. That would descend still better on the dirt and be as light and quick as now. The Diverge has a lot of touring capability that I personally do not long for.
Anyhow, we'll have no say in whatever Spec will do with the next itineration of the Crux. Still loving my Crux as it is though.

I love it. It is way better than my former Diverge at least for the kind of riding i do and the demands i want from a bike.
As far as a new model goes.... no way to know for sure. All anyone has are guesses.
Not saying they wouldn't do that, but they would be fully admitting they have abandoned the idea that the Crux is a CX bike. I mean, with the current iteration, we all pretty much see that they gave up on CX and went gravel, but that would be the nail in the coffin. I think Specialized has actually shot themselves in the foot with gimmicks on the Diverge and Roubaix. I don't think I'd buy a Diverge with that weird seatpost shock thing and Future Shock. To me they're just unnecessary and add weight. It might be hard to justify another model, but Canyon have done things right, offering the gravel heavy Grizl, the race gravel Grail, and a dedicated CX bike with the Inflite. Whether Specialized could justify this I don't know. Gravel heavy Diverge, CX bike Crux, and add a grevel race bike new model maybe? Or to simplify things, take the Crux and make two slightly different geos, one that's CX with the changes I said above (shorter WB, higher BB, steeper HT, less tire clearance, more aggressive) and a more traditional gravel bike that's designed to race. Knowing Specialized, I'm actually surprised they haven't made an aero gravel race bike.

I agree with you, but I think they could easily accomplish things.. There are two versions of the Diverge... Diverge and Diverge STR. They need to simplify the Diverge some... The STR covers the hardcore side of the sector, take away the futur shock, lighten it up... then the Crux can move back to being more CX focused. Finally got mine build. I mainly ported everything from my SL7 to this one, and will slowly update/adjust parts where needed. My mechanic didnt get the memo reg. cutting the fork, so will have that done soon.
First ride done and its amazing. I will use it as my do-it-all bike, swapping between 353NWSs for road and 303S for gravel. Absolutely love the color, esp. in sunlight.
In roadsetup its at 7.2kg, havent weighed it with the gravel wheelset but guessing 7.6-7.7kg.

I heard new Crux this year. I agree with the predictions of UDH, more aero, hidden cables. Would guess that geometry stays very similar. I could see in-frame storage being added, although would add a little weight. Marketed as their full on gravel race bike. You will never see the words cyclocross in their marketing. It just doesn't sell any bikes.

Headset issues:
So, I have nonstop issues with the headset as well. I have spent about $300 on service fees on my headset.
A week ago, I took my bike to my LBS as there was headset play again. He took the fork out and found that the movement of the headset had damaged the fork, and the fork needed to be replaced.
Prior to bringing my bike to the LBS, I ordered the Wolf-tooth replacement headset because I wanted a new one.
As my LBS is not a specialized dealer, I had to take my bike to a Specialized store. Also my LBS could not get the Wolf TOoth headset to work.
I went to a Specialized store, and both the store and Specialized were amazing. A New fork was received within 2 days of the warranty claim, and the work was done the same day, and they got the Wolf Tooth headset to work.
