DT Swiss GRC 1400

Any thoughts on these wheels? There are no reviews for it yet and nothing popped up on my search.

1600 grams for 42mm deep 25mm Internal Width seems in spec with most other brands. The new Roval Terra are tempting but it's 32mm deep. So the aero aspect of the DT Swiss is appealing. When I do ride gravel, it's like 50/50 gravel/road. Usually ride to the spots. Plus I'm doing the Belgium Wafer Ride in May. 65% of that is on the road.

Plus the GRC is cheaper by like 800 dollars.
Any other wheelsets I should consider. It's $1400 from Starbike

Closest competitors are Reynolds ATR, Hunt Limitless 48, Light Bicycle WR50, November All Road 50.

For my money, I'd get a set built up by Lightbicyle for 2/3 the price. I've got their 30mm with 36mm deep wheelset, and they're great.

If Starbike can't ship to the US, try Merlin or BIke-Discount.de, both have good prices and stock.

I have a set of the AR36 and a set of the WR50. I upgraded to the WR50 when they were released. If you have the frame clearance, go for the wider WR50, or the slightly heavier and cheaper WR45. The 4mm wider internal width of the WR over the AR provides better support for wide tyres. Also, consider the shallower WR35/WR38 for some weight savings, or if you ride in a windy area.

So I can build the WR38 for 1290 with the Industry Nine torch. Or I can get the GRC 1400 for 1400. I can build the WR45 for 1200. Is it worth 200 dollars more . . .

I’d only do the i9 hub if you want loud and blingy. The DT will be near silent. I don’t think you’d have a usecase for anything more than the 18t freehub, unless you’re climbing muddy steep hills.

In any case, it’s not worth $200. You’re not getting better aero with gravel tires. LB wheels are good quality and gravel use is about the lightest duty possible. They use the same spokes and hubs. LB are less resellable and you neee to wait a month. I’d go DT if you’re buying a $300 set of alloy wheels, but not for their higherend offerings.

I'm contemplating on getting LB WR38 rims, anyone have experience with the so called "black tex" finish that is supposed to be more durable?

Built up with DT240S + Lighter Rim option (global warehouse) hits the scale about 1367 +/-15g according to the website.

I have the WR50 which has the same black-tec finish. I also have a set of the AR36 with their matte finish. I would have chosen matte if it was available as I thought it would look too loud but now I really like it.

I rode them through some coarse railway bluestone with road tyres on them and have managed to scuff them in one place, so they are not bulletproof. I can’t say how the same treatment would have scuffed my other rims.
