Best 35-38mm tires for sand / loose over hard?
Moderator: Moderator Team
I currently ride 35mm Schwalbe G-One All- Around. The area I ride on this mostly crushed limestone and there are a number of short sections that are shallow sand over hard ground.
The majority is hard pack and the G-One All-around's fly on this type of surface but many of the cornering sections are loose gravel and there are a number of shallow sandy sections as well.
Do loose gravel and shallow sand require the same type of tires? Which ones do well for these?
Are there any that do well on these surfaces but still roll well on hard pack?

It’ll be a 38. Sand is about having a lot of planning area. 43c is about the starting point for sand usefulness all the way up to a fat tire. I got enough traction on a GK SK 43c to climb a 4deg hill poorly. If all you can do is a 38c, just stick with the 35c G-Ones.
I had GravelKing SK in 43mm with 32 psi on some sandy trails and that was not that easy to bike. I basically had to bike fast ....not very enjoyable when you have to do that for more than 100km
I saw another biker on a fat bike and he was definitely not struggling
Wider than 43 seems better indeed.
