Shimano 11sp 11-34 spacer / noise / rattling
Moderator: Moderator Team
It seems you need to run a spacer on Shimano 105 and Ultegra 11-34 cassettes, as they are made for 10sp MTB. Without it, you'll spend days beating your head against the wall wondering why your 11sp cassette doesn't tighten on your 11sp freehub. You'll have a klanking noise on enguagement and bite marks on your freehub body. Thanks Shimano!
Can anyone tell me if the spacer goes behind the cassette or between 11 and 12? The dealer manual says between 11 and 12, which is odd and the cogs are even spaced as is. I think the spacer is 1mm rather than 1.8mm , but haven't measured.

Solved - I looked at the PDF again, it looks like i was confusing the 11t with the lockring in the diagram. Behind the cassette, just like the 10/11 spacer.
LOL, just order a new freehub, the old one is like messed up pretty bad now. At least file the old one down.Have been trying to figure out what the heck the clicking is on mine for a few months now...

My freehub is almost new, little to no chunks out of it as of last week when I did a full clean of it thinking that would fix my clicking.
Thanks for the feedback! I was not aware of that!
I see it now in the description from Shimano:
"Hub body designed to fit a variety of bikes from MTB to road bikes * Spacer required to fit hub body to road bikes"
