I understand it’s possible to run xtr 11 speed with road shifters.

What about 12 speed. Can we do that? Does the Shimano road shifters just send an “upshift” or “downshift” signal so that it will work with 11 speed or 12 speed. The derailleur knows there is no more gears and so ignores the instruction to shift.

The di2 system bases everything off of the rear derailleur. There isn’t a 12 speed di2 xtr rear derailleur to use.

Are you sure about there not being a 12 speed MTB di2 rear derailleur? I thought there was.

If you read the (p)reviews on bikerumor and/or bikeradar of the mechanical versions of XTR 12-speed, one of them mentions that we probably won't see 12-speed Di2 this year and maybe even not 2020.
