Thanks! Thinking about 2x with a SRAM 11-36 cassette...With 30/46...
How do you get 30/46 front?
I'm struggling to find that combo with an xtr crankset from the 980/985 doubles in 165mm...
Edit: nevermind. I'm being an idiot. That's just me frustrated with searching for a mtb crank to work with an mtb di2 FD. Ignore this.

-Easton EC90 SL (want it! but way too expensive for me)
-Use Ultegra or Dura Ace crank with Absolute Black chainrings
-FSA SL-K Adventure Carbon
-Upcoming Shimano GRX (31/48)
also check this thread: I posted a comparison by a German magazine there

Why don’t you use the GRX 46/30 crankset?

Is 46/30 really only available with the lower end Shimano GRX group?
-Crankset FC-RX810-2 (2x),48-31T, 2×11 , 722 grams
-Crankset FC-RX600-11 (2x), 46-30T, 2×11, 816 grams

Looked at the FSA sl-k as well. Looks mean AF. Priced between an Ultegra and DA and weight like DA. It is a strong contender if I can find it at a reasonable price.
Not keen on the Oval AbsoluteBlack stuff. I really like their round cx ring, though! Was seriously thinking of getting their 38 or 42t rings and swap between those and my current 52 force1 as needed for gravel/road.
Edit: I've also come to the realisation that if I really wanted to use the xtr RD for 42t at the back and a road crank, I need a mechanical set up witha wolftooth tanpan. If I want di2, I need to have that xtr crankset from the gods that has that 44/30...

Can do but wanted to see if I can match 2 di2 mtb derailleurs to get 11-40/42 and 44/30
Also, if going mechanical (where I can use a road front derailleur) I can just try to find other round rings for my current crankset (red 22 with hidden bolt) and save money instead, although I'm having a hard time finding either a sub-compact or compact kit for 130bcd hidden bolt non-oval.

What kind of terrain you guys riding that you need 46/30 with a 42 out back? Honest question though. I'm a flat lander and run regular road gearing on gravel.
Many of the local dirt tracks here have sustained 12-17% gradients and are also often technical & rutted/rocky.
Sounds like MTB terrain
Ditto. That sounds brutal and a MTB would be my choice for that terrain. Ill bring the full suspension MTB if I know an event or course is technical because you can plow through the rough stuff, and not picking through it on a road bike with big tires.
This is where the term "gravel" riding gets blurred. Single track and gravel riding are 2 different things. For me gravel is a mixture of road and a hardpack dirt, clay, gravel, crushed shell surface. Relatively smooth to a certain degree. I know on my compact 2x setup with a 11-26 I can comfortably ride 12ish% grades. On the flip I can still hit the flats in the mid 20mph range with a good cadence. So with this gearing and 45c tires your just building a rigid mountain bike that happens to have drop bars, not a gravel rig.
Lol this thread could just be an argument of the definition of "gravel".
I personally use mine from everything from mtb to fast road riding (650*2.0 + 700*28). The grx gearing is getting close to what people need to achieve this.

Yes they are, but the tracks I ride are those that are in my back yard. I live at the base of the Adelaide Hills, and the dirt tracks are what they are. Requires some road to get there as well (and up hills at times too).
A MTB would be better on some tracks, but heavier. Hence my choice of the Slate - a mix of both.

I've been riding this very happily with DA 9120 shifters, DA 9100 FD, Ultegra RX800 RD, FSA SL-K 46/30 crank (630g). 11-36 on my 650B x 47 gravel wheels, 11-32 on my 700C x 28 road wheels. Shifting is great. No experience with GRX yet, but I imagine it has to be the same or better?
Kinda hoping the new FD design will let me get away with a 48/30 combo on the FSA crank (the 48/32 and 46/30 sets can mix and match). 46/30 and 11-36 is 2 over capacity, shifts great, still has some extension in the RD on big-big without going slack on small-small; what's two more?

For obvious reasons you are never going to find such chainrings. Can't have a chainring where the diameter of the teethed part is less than the BCD.

Like searching for odd tooth count narrow wide rings......

How do you like that FSA crank? Also thinking about buying it...Easton wouuld be best I suppose but so expensive. 48/30 combo with 11-36 would be awesome. Wondering if it would work - since Shimano will release a 31/48 - if they could make it work with the new FD...they probably would have released a 30/48...

Yep. Just noticed that last night!
Shame i can't even find have the large chairing with a 50!
50/39 i can handle with a 11/40 at the back.
Man. Another set of cranks....
I really want to keep mine.
Maybe I'll just set it up with di2, 1x and be done with it...
It'll probably be cheaper for me to get a sram xd body for a 10t cog...
Aahhh

50T chainrings with 130 BCD is available from Specialities TA, Stronglight and others. Don't think I have seen any that matches the hidden-bolt orientation though, so the chain catcher pin would end up opposite the crank arm.
