650b or 700c?

650b I would get a set of the older DT swiss Xmc 1200 with the 24mm internal . Can be found for right around a grand

I went the aluminum route for my 650b with Easton ea70ax. Considering carbon myself and it will likely be xmc 1200.. unless I can score a deal on Roval CLX 32 in 650b .. also considering a enve g27 build . Even with hookups well over a grand :(
wish i went 650 on my gravel. switching to 32 mm tires made the bike ride too high for my taste. it was the one element i failed to adequately consider. didn't realize how the bike profile would change when going from 23's to 32's on the bike. for that reason on my new road bike i'm only putting on 25's

I have alloy and carbon. The alloy will generally be softer feeling and have more give which again generally can be a good thing.
700c : Carbon (Enve 4.5AR) Alloy (HED Ardennes+ LT)
650b : Carbon (Enve G27) Alloy (Easton EA70 AX)

Just got my G27's so no comment.. but yes the alloys are less stiff then the Enve's...but they also weigh a bit more. My 4.5AR are low 1400g..HED closer to 1600g and easton 1700g. I forgot to weigh the g27 before I put a tire on, will have to backcalculate later.. but they should be around 1300g. Since I'm running 47mm tires this keeps my weightweenism happy.

Following this as in the process of getting the original wheels on my Slate sorted due to recall. The replacement ones (at the time of recall) were narrow Mavic XM419.

Budget is lower than the OP’s, so keen to see what is suggested.
