Don't use Ali or to cassettes off road they will be ground away. They are for nice days.

SRAM Force (PG1170) 11-36 comes in at 368g.

I had a 10-42 on previously but the jumps were too much.

1199 sram is a beauty at 268 grams.

That being said, the new 12 speed cassettes might be good ones to consider.

You should be able to fit at least a 11-42 without a wolf tooth using the RX805 derailleur. At least it worked for me and there was some margin left on the adjustment screw.
Are you running a 1x or 2x front crank? Because beyond the b-screw, the pulley arm has to also be long enough to handle the jump from big-big to small-small in a 2x setup.

I've got the Ultegra RX with 48/32 up front. I was planning on 11-36, but if 11-40 works, then I'd vastly prefer that

I was able to run 50/34 11-40 with the RX derailleur. Big/Big doesn't result in catastrophic failure but is certainly not recommended.

Since I have 2 650B wheelsets currently, I have 2 cassettes coming
1. XTR 11-40
2. Sram XG-1199 10-44(wolftooth 44 instead of 42)

gonna have a pretty low gear if I stay with 2x...probably walk faster

Are there any other XD driver options that are affordable around the 11-36 ratios ??

Also, currently run 50/34 & 11-34 cassette with Rx800 RD. Big-big is OK, but small-small is slightly loose.

How do those that do 50/34 & 11-40 manage it with the same RD ??

^ yeah dont know... my chain is long on purpose right now because I knew I was getting 11-40 or more.

I'm running 48/32 with an 11-34 and small/small is way to loose. I cant use the the smallest 3 as is currently. Hopefully I wont need to do a much to run the 40t...not sure about 44 though. I have a goatlink and chain links ready.

I’m running 50/34 and 11-40. Proper chain length (full length DA chain in my case) and proper B screw adjustment.

@ pdlpsher1 - can you provides pics at each extreme as I reckon my setup is also done ‘properly’ , but any additional insight will be appreciated

Edit : Shimano specs being conservative show total capacity of the RX800 is 39T (e.g. same as my setup) , but the setup from pdlpsher1 is 45T total, and that’s waaaay over, so keen to see what the secret sauce is :P

I'm running 46/30 in front, and one pair of wheels with 11-36, the other with 11-32 ,with 113 links in the chain. Also with RX800. If I trim the B-screw for the 11-36, everything works great, still some tension in small-small, not too stretched in big-big. If I trim the B-screw for the 11-32, it's too loose in small-small. The 32 cassette shifts great trimmed for the 36, so I don't care. So try adding a little tension and see if it's acceptable?
