Cannondale TOPSTONE 2019 is released

Currently use GP5000 Tubeless 32mm on my Topstone Alloy on DT CR1600 (22mm internal) since I'm riding more on (not so good) asphalt at the moment. They measure 33mm. Super fast and so much fun to ride. Also seem to be bombproof. And can easily be used on light gravel. Bought them after reading https://forum.ridinggravel.com/post/con ... s-10164949.

I'm looking for fat options. I've already got some road wheels with 32mm Hutchinson secteur set up tubeless. They are great for predominantly road riding. A few of my off road route don't require much grip, but are very rocky. Yesterday I felt my rim so many times I decided I definitely want more volume. I was just looking at the SK. Next size up is 38mm, which doesn't seem.worth the jump, then it's 43mm. I wonder if they'd fit? I quite like the look of the specialized ones too (forgot the name, but the ones that have a solid centre line)

I'd definitely be interested in how clearance and BB height is affected by the 650b option. I have the alloy one too, so definitely relevant. I'd imagine the 650x47 is world's apart from 700x28, but curious on experience.

I was thinking of either WTB Byways at 650x47, or something like a g-one all round at 700x40, or maybe a 700x43 gravelking SK (if it will fit).

Also, checked my tyre pressure. No wonder I was feeling the rim. I was at 19psi front and rear! Pumped up to 30/25 tonight and didn't feel the rim quite so much, but not as comfy or grippy.

Right - the objective with using a fat 650b and relatively skinny 700 was to keep the rolling diameter as similar as possible. Online wheel diameter calculators seem to be very approximate, or have no values for the relatively new 650x47 size, or can't account for various knob sizes. I just measured what I have in the garage:

650Bx47 WTB Venture (low tread) on 27mm internal carbon rim: 26 7/8" diameter (unweighted). Measured 48mm wide at casing
700x28 Conti GP5000TL on 22mm internal carbon rim: 26 15/16" diameter (unweighted). Measured 30mm wide
700x40 WTB Nano on stock Topstone Al rim: 28 1/4" diameter (unweighted). Measured 43.5mm wide
(height eyeballed as close as I could from a measuring tape, so let's not quibble about significant digits. Width taken with good digital calipers)

So BB height with 650s would definitely be impacted vs stock on the Topstone (as well as gear inches). Hard for me to say if it will be noticeable or meaningful for you (or me, Topstone is SM and I ride XL). BTW I test fit the 47s on the Topstone, and there's still clearance. Probably can get away with a 650x50 if it doesn't have big MTB side knobs.

I think given I'd want the fatter tyres for more off-road, lowering the BB isn't what I'd want to do.

I'm going to look at wider 700c tyres. Currently thinking about some 700x43 gravel king SK, 700x42 byways or 700x40 Vittoria terreno dry (I live the 700x33 on my CX bike)

Is it possible to run 140mm discs at the rear of this? I see there is an adaptor

So for fun, I put in a wheel from my wifes MTB (rear only, front is not compatible), and a Cross mark 2 (27.5x2.25) fits in the rear with a couple of mm either side, and more at the top. I wouldn't really run that, but it does make me think a 27.5x2.1 would probably be fine, so I'm being drawn towards fat road oriented tread for most usage, and converting the 650b wheels I've got to fit, and getting some 2.1 knobblies for real off-road.

The topstone 4 is interesting. It is priced even cheaper than the Sora. This is going to fly off the rack as an economical gravel bike for beginners.

In the market for a gravel bike and tried a 2020 Topstone 105 yesterday. I normally ride a 56cm Cervelo or a 58cm Caad10 so was looking at a size medium or large in the Topstone. Visiting my local bike store there was only a medium available with a lead time until July/August for the Topstone 2021 models in large. The medium felt okay in terms of reach, the only issue was that I seemed to have a significant amount of seatpost out of the frame. Looking at the website, the seattube length on the medium is only 500mm but I tend to ride my road bike with a saddle height of 770mm from the BB centre. This means 270mm of seatpost exposed and looks a bit weird. The guys at the bike store also thought it was a bit much and so I passed on the bike.

Questions though, am I right in thinking I would ride the Topstone with the same seatpost extension as my roadbikes or will I have it slightly lower? I guess on downhills I would want to be lower but for normal rides on the flat I guess it would be similar? The other question is, is anyone else riding the Topstone with a massive amount of seatpost sticking out?

Lets not talk about getting the stock FSA crank arm off, I didnt resort to an electric saw like the horror stories, but it wasnt pleasant!!!

Lads at 1.73 5-8 I’m thinking small in Topstone . Have the option of Topstone alloy ultegra rx in small or a giant revolt carbon 105 in medium
What size Bars and stem come with the small ?
