Looking at various options for 650b rims. I’m curious as to what internal width rims people are running with 650b tyres for mixed surfaces.

I'm getting 21mm internal to run 38mm Pari Motos. They will probably be as wide as my 42mm PMs on a 19mm internal rim, but the 1st combo will be much lighter

I have some Nextie wheels (NXT27RM30) which are like 23.4 internal/30 external and I’m running WTB Byways. So far they’ve been great, but admittedly I haven’t gone on much more than basic gravel. I’m 160-165 and run mine around 33 or so if it’s mostly gravel and a bit higher if it’s more road.

I would go for 22.5-24 mm internally.
Pends on how big tires i would like to use i guess.
Wider rims make tires bulb out more which could be a problem with clearance to chainstays.

Depends how wide you want to run and if the combo will fit your frame.
Funny though because I've been using a 20mm inner-width (XR-331) with 2.1" Thunderburts for quite a while.
A new 22mm-inner carbon rim build currently has a 42mm slick on!

The XR331 is the rim I have as my top choice.jemima wrote:Depends how wide you want to run and if the combo will fit your frame.

I just built a pair of wheels using Light Bicycle RG722 carbon rims, which are 22.5mm internal width: https://us.lightbicycle.com/shop/650b-r ... cross-rim/. I'm running Compass 48mm Switchback Hill tyres on them. They're disc brake only, though - you don't say if you're looking for rims for rim brakes or disc brakes.

Those rims look a little pricey for the weight and not 32s. DT Swiss XR331 rims are a fraction of the cost and lighter as well as coming in 28 and 42 hole.

XR331 are only 20mm internal width...and the Light Bicycle rims come in any drilling from 16h to 36h. I built mine as 24h front and 28h rear.ultimobici wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 2:38 pmThose rims look a little pricey for the weight and not 32s. I'd look at DT Swiss XR 361 which is the later alu rims.ultimobici wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 1:06 pmLooking at various options for 650b rims. I’m curious as to what internal width rims people are running with 650b tyres for mixed surfaces.

I use them on my 650B set after managing making Ryde Trace 22 rims uneven in 2 weeks!!!
No problems what so ever with these.
I am 85Kgs without a thread. So me with shoes etc + bike is probably 95Kgs +.

Check out some of the Chinese makers (Light Bicycle, etc), they often give you an option.FreaK wrote:Slightly off topic, but does anyone know of a carbon 650b rim designed for rim brakes?
24mm internal. 47mm tires (wtb byways)ultimobici wrote:Looking at various options for 650b rims. I’m curious as to what internal width rims people are running with 650b tyres for mixed surfaces.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Following on from this, how wide do 650x47 tyres come up on 23-24mm internal width rims? I have a frame coming that can take 2.0 tyres just. Wondering about alternatives.
