I would go for either Easton EC90SL or Rotor Aldhu.
Both offer 46/30.
Rotor has an option between 2 axle lengths.
Just pick the right one, in case of Rotor.
Bikes:

Ax Lightness Vial EVO Race (2019.01.03)
Open *UP* (2016.04.14)
Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)

Ex bike; Vial EVO D, Vial EVO Ultra, Scott Foil, Paduano ti bike.

As a spinner, on my gravel bike I use a SRAM 901 crank, with Carbon-Ti rings of 40/24.

That bike has 3 pairs of wheels, 700x25 road tires with a 11-23 cassette, 700x35 gravel with a 11-32, and even 27.5x2.2 Rocket Rons with a 11-36. Solves all my gearing problems.

With the gears that you mention you will neot need an XTR rear derailleuer.
Ultegra 8000 will cover it perfectly.

I also like a double for gravel- I run a 34/50 and an XTR 11-40 cassette. GS Ultegra covers this perfectly- I will be moving to the cluth derailleur as soon as it is availavle.

FWIW- I did a gravel race yesterday. Many riders were struggling on climbs because they were over-geared due to 1x shifitng systems.
By the last climb- Many were wallking (there were multiple distances so the walkers were from the shorter events).
gf ellensburg?

idk about the cage length though. for sure the rated capacity of the r8000 gs is 37 and you ostensibly need 45. having run 46-36 x 11-40 with a 5800 gs rated to 37 as well (which is only 10t) different on the front i feel like you are for sure going to get somewhat sloppier shifting and less chain tension, especially when on the little ring and not at the top of the block. the clutch may help with that but 37 is much less than 45!

Easton ec 90 sl, custom machined spider from kent eriksen (chainline made to suit 12*142 perfect 46-47mm pending on chainrings),
44/34 wickwerks cx chainrings, Sram 11-36 pg-1170 cassette.
Drilled another hole in 6870 GD RD, for more tension of tension spring.
Sugino mt-ox kit to lower FD enough to sit properly over large chainring.

Usual chainline to fit 135 - 12*142 is 45-45.5mm.
To be optimized for 12*142, 46-47mm

Using 6800 crank, i had alot of issues with chain jumping off at the inside.
When i changed to this setup, zero issues.
No need for clutch, the new chain catcher doesn't even have a hairline scratch on it.
No chainslap what so ever.
that is really cool. can you buy that spider somewhere? how much?

Just mail Kent Eriksen cycles. They sell these. I don't remember, but around 120 USD i think.

My mistake, it was only for the old gen crank.
Sorry!
Perhaps Aldhu spider have same fitting as Shimano 4-bolt?
I don't know, but then Absolute black would have that combo

In that case I’d use 9100 cranks.

I’m leaning towards the Eastons as they allow round rings. Not entirely sold on non-round rings.

I was also contemplating Aldhu or Easton.
Both due to chainline.
Shimanos crankset are still using old chainline (43.5mm), while Rotor (46mm) and Easton (45-45.5mm) uses the chainline for 135/142 (= offset of 2-2.5mm)
Kent Eriksens spider (BCD 110) is as i understood, optimized for 12*142 (my setup 46.5-47mm).
Perfect! Zero chaindrops, no chainslaps and perfect shifting under rough condistions
Not even one single rub scratch at the chaincatcher!

No word on release date though!

Easton 30/46 and 32/47 were announced mid April. I've only seen it appear on sponsored riders bike in the Dirty Kanza, it's still not available to order online anywhere, and speaking to Easton on Facebook Messenger, their first batch is sold out, so now I'm looking at Praxis and Rotor.

Thanks for all the feedback. I’ve decided on 46/30 on the front coupled with an 11-25 on 700c cross wheels and 11-28 or 30 on 650b Gravel King Tubeless.

So, given this decision, what options are there on the crank front? I’ve been looking at the following

* Dura Ace 9100 with Absolute Black 46/30 oval rings
* Easton EC90 with Easton 46/30 dm gravel rings
* XTR M985 with an aftermarket 46 outer

Any comments ?
Have a look at the Sugino OX901D. Uses 110BCD for the big ring and 74BCD for the small ring. Available in tooth combinations from 52-36 down to 44-30, or even smaller if you want to fit your own chainrings, uses the same 24mm axle as Shimano cranks, and Q factor is about 25mm less than XTR. My wife started with 44-30 chainrings on hers, but when those wore out I put on 39-26, and she's happier with that.

https://alexscycle.com/collections/road ... s-crankset

Also available is the OX601D, which is functionally the same but less highly finished and cheaper.

Well, i was all set to go single ring but the bike i was planning to modify to that end came with 34-50 and 11-32 and for the feel i was after it seems pretty much spot on. I guess if i went single ring it would be 44t But since for me this is both my recovery day, and steep-hills-with-groceries gravel bike I may just end up keeping it as is. I don't at all feel the need for smaller jumps, like, at all. 8speed for life! or whatever.
it's actually possible to come to the conclusion even before realising it makes no sense at all

Does anyone have an Easton EC90 SL crankset fitted? As I have a metal plate on the inside of my ankle none I need to know how much clearance I’ll have compared to my current Campagnolo UT crank set up.

The measurement is across the cranks at the axle.

Thanks
