I searched and came up empty. What is the largest tire that can be fitted on a Trek Boone Disc (2016)? Tons of room in the front but the rear looks narrow at the chain stays. What have people managed on the rear? Was thinking of doing a little gravel riding.

You’ll want to find actual measured widths dependent on rim width of which they are mounted.

The max on that era of boone was a 38. I had 38s on mine when I owned it.

I bought my wife a Boone 7 (cantilever) and fit some 36c tires on there (Clement/Donnely MSO Tubeless). No issues with clearance. You can probably fit a 38c, but I wouldn't go beyond that.

I have 38mm Schwalbe G-One Allrounds on my 2016 Boone. They actually measure 40 mm and fit fine with ample clearance.

I think a 40mm is a tight fit. It won't be good if any mud sticks or if your wheel wobbles.

would there be increased clearance with a 650b wheel? thinking of getting one. what is the biggest tire you could fit with fenders? 35 or 38mm?

I don't think you could fit a bigger tire if using 650b wheels. The design of the chainstays open up where the tire is located and then narrow towards the rear for a bit before flairing to the dropouts.

I'm building up a 2016 trek boone and these are pics of Maxxis Rambler 40's mounted on Stans Crest(21mm inside) 29 rims. It looks so close in the photo but there is good space there. I'm very pleased with it but certainly couldn't go wider. ImageImage

I can put 43mm Panaracers on my AL 2014 Crocket, but with dirt they will rub. I settled on 38mm.

Let's refresh this topic with Trek Boone since 2018.

I have Boone 2020, size 56

52mm internal width of front fork
44mm internal width on chainstay, seatstay is wider

Considering some combo like 38c bit knobby front and 35c bit slick rear. Any ideas? Purpose is to smash the city, sometimes some park, sidewalk, pave, forest path, etc.

I have to run also SKS Speedrocker fenders.

Running Bontrager Paradigm Elite, internal width 25mm, external 30mm, and Continental Grandsport 28 measure 32.5mm on them.

Wouldn't that mean your front will hold but your rear will slide out? I would say that means a worse crash than front sliding out.
I would say you have a better feel of grip available when the front will start to loose grip first.

I am not sure where you get this from.
It's always worse when your front slides out. If your rear starts sliding, for example in mud, i can hold in a drift a bit. Sure, i can go some bit knobby rear, but as the boone has more tire clearance on front, i am fine to have bigger tire on front, and narrower on rear.
