Received mine a week ago and have done several road rides but only one gravel ride. The shifting is good and there's definitely more chaintension. It works well, but it's too early to say if there's less risk of loosing the chain. Will report back after some additional gravel rides.

Based on your experience with it, do you think it has any value over a regular R8000 derailleur if you're only going to ride on pavement?

Well, not really. The whole idea is to increase chaintension when riding off road or cobbles. If you only ride smooth pavement, then I don't see any reason to choose the RX.

Thanks, that what I figured. I just haven't read any review that addresses that question specifically.

There's a button on the derailleur, where you can switch the clutch on/off. When I ride on the road, I just switch it off and it's exactly as the 8000 derailleur. When you switch it on, you activate the clutch/increase the chaintension. But it's nice to have more chaintension and not having your chain jumping around also on the road. I'm considering to just ride with the clutch on all the time.

FYI I was able to run a shimano 11-42 on my Lynskey with no mods using this derailleur and an 11-46 with the Wolftooth Roadlink DM.

I've done a fair amount of rides since the last updtate, and I must say it works/rides really well. No problems at all, and no chaindrops at all. I've done gravel, singletracks and a bit of mtb tracks as well. Lots of bumpy roads with no issues.

Later this year I'm gonna test it with 50/34 chainrings paired with a 11-34 cassette.

markdjr Are you running the 11-42 cassette as 1x? What do you have up front? I'm trying to decide between the Ultegra RX and XT rear derailleurs for a 1x Di2 bike that I'm building up soon. If the RX can run 11-42 without issue, then I'll probably go that route.

I'm running 50x34 up front. The ultegra derailleur was shifting well on 11-42 with b-screw to spare for me. I don't cross chain, I use the di2 synchro shift from keeping things too taught or too sloppy. It will cover the 50-46 but I have never done anything but run it on the stand since it's unnecessary.

I'm thinking of building the same setup on my new bike (Specialized Diverge Carbon).

How smooth is the 11-42 and did you need a Roadlink?

I'm concerned that I might want an even smaller front chainring for those 20% grade gravel hills.
