Ignorance is bliss...right? Well, not exactly. I have an XTR wheelset that I want to use with my 11 sp Ultegra Di2 gravel bike. I didn't realize that I couldn't use a road cassette on an XTR freewheel (I know now). So I'm stuck with this brand new XTR wheelset, and a bike with new Ultegra Di2 mech's.
Is there any hope, and/or what alternatives do I have?

That's a decent alternative, thanks! Running 11-36 SRAM road cassette now on my other wheelset.

The HG800 is specifically designed to be used with Ultegra R8000 and R8050 long cage mechs.simplemind wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 7:22 pmAnother question...will the shifting be effected (Di2), using this cassette?

Have another question...would I have an issue just using an XT/XTR 11-40 cassette with my 6800 GS mech?

I have a 6800-GS on my Crockett. 11-32 is a tight fit, you might get a 34 to work, but I can’t see a 40t fitting.simplemind wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 3:08 amHave another question...would I have an issue just using an XT/XTR 11-40 cassette with my 6800 GS mech?

I'll leave it up to you to figure out the other 30%. If you are in any way offended, that's on you.

I have no problem with the SRAM 11-36, and it "appears" like the arm is long enough to accomodate a larger cassette. Just hoping someone who has done this will speak up.IrrelevantD wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:54 amI have a 6800-GS on my Crockett.
Thanks!
Souds like the kind of issue the Wolftooth derailleur links are designed to address.

Could be your bike has a slightly longer deraileur hangar, I just know that 32 is tight on mine and I think 34 would hit the top pully regardless of any b-screw adjustment. I'd also say that unless you're running rings really close to each other in size up front, you might run into an issue with how much slack a 6800 will take up. Officially the total capacity on the 6800 is 37t, with an 11-40 that's 29t right there. Doesn't leave you a lot of options in front unless you're running 1x. Not saying it can't be done... just not to be surprised if it doesn't. Wolftooth link mentioned by @ms6073 probably your best bet as it's going to effectively lenthen your hangar, but not sure if that gives you any extra capacity when it comes to the rings.simplemind wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 2:40 am

Yes, however I thought a Road Link might mess with the shifting when I use my other wheelset, which is 11-32. That's the only reason not to use a Road Link as far as I know.ms6073 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 3:55 amSouds like the kind of issue the Wolftooth derailleur links are designed to address.
Here in an interesting video describing the use of a 42t mtb cassette w/ a Shimano 105 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbg-UgQ5Pnk
Here is a review of the "Ultegra" 11-34t cassette. The comments also have quite a bit of discussion regarding going bigger than that and what mods are/are not required: https://cyclingtips.com/2018/03/shimano ... te-review/

Thanks, a good write up. I've got it (HG800) on the bike now, just need some time on it to give a proper eval.TheKaiser wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 5:13 pmHere is a review of the "Ultegra" 11-34t cassette.
