this is only a problem for mtb rd, because of strong RD spring barend shifter setup will have more resistance
even if you disable clutch and use old style shifter in friction mode - you need to screw barend setup bolt tighter then usual

most touring bikes have road rd and barend shifter can hold rd in place with lower resistance
