Recently there has been rumours (Eurobike 2017) of Shimano 1*12.
This is ofcourse aimed at MTB's and the likelihood of Shimano making a set of Shifters for dropbars, operating 1*12 is how credible?

Meanwhile Sram released XDR (R=Road), which indicates Sram is soon to release a 1*12 groupset with dropbar shifters.

Would you guys still invest in a XR M8050 Di2 and road shifters?
Or simply wait for Srams 1*12 (Road)?

it's coming for Sram
Now if you could use the XDR sram body and their cassette

but with DI2 derailleur and levers
cause it works best than both Etap and CX1
Plus the dura ace or ultegra di2 new levers are the best off all three manufacturers

I have been tinkering 1*11, but i realize i have no excuse for the expense of the curiousity.
My 2*11 now works flawlessly.
I have an 11-36 (on a 44/34 crank now on my) 2*11 and the 1*11 cassettes last two cogs are 37 and 42.

1*12 makes a little more sense, but still a bit of thinking on what cogs you'd want/ need.

I wonder how many years before Shimano jumps this boat (with road shifter(s)...

I think the primary problem with a jumping chain on 2*11 is/ has been due to a too narrow chainline for the 12*142 bikes.

You'd want the same as with 11s 1x, with 1 more cog, so a 9-32 for racing or a 10-42 for allroad with sliiiightly smaller jumps.

Plus, there's already 12s 1x with the 10-50 Eagle, it's just missing road shifters.

Aqua Blue using a 12 speed 9-32 with a 44 tooth up front (I presume it's a SRAM 12 speed cassette?)

Question is when Sram release 12 speed drop-shifters and if Shimano ever will release a groupset that actually is 1*12, but with optional shifters!?
I think Shimano have been viewing the use of mixing for so long, that they must have something cooking.
But when, 2019, 2020?

They have to "figure out" first rear wheel spacing ;) So design of axle/ freehub can be changed, to allow for really small cogs. Then they'll spend some money in net to convince some % of populatin on forums that it's impossible we could live without it, then they'll sell to us all new shiny bikes, wheels, brakes and drivetrain. Because nothing "outdated" won't fit anymore.

How it will come ? Easy. Business has a lot of exprience in that matter : disc brakes in road bikes, 135 spacing, 142 spacing. press fit bottom brackets, boost hubs, thru axle standards, OS stems/ bars, wide rims... gazilion examples

enjoy :)

IIRC 12s XD will require 135mm rear spacing so you can throw away your non-disc frames :D

I wonder, if Shimano really came up with groupset which could be either MTB, Road or CX/ gravel.
What would happen with the 11 speed value?
Same if Sram came out with something like Force 1*11, but 1*12.

Shimano try to persuade us that syncro-shifting is like a wide band 1*11.
Looking at a gear calculator, it sure looks like syncro-shifting would shift alot between outer and inner chainrings.
That would almost be vice versa compared to 1*11.

Shimano has no desire to do a 1x road/cx/gravel groupset

They have no need either. Those things driving 1x don't (generally) apply to road/CX/gravel.

And shimanos front mechs work as well.

And FWIW i'm even seeing some of the earlier fans of 1x for cross switching back to 2x now.
