Cross is coming ! And I'm on the lookout for a new bike. I'm reading good things about the Focus Mares CX and am just wondering about it's max tire clearance. So I can pop some wider gravel tires in come spring.
Would love to hear from you, also if you have any experiences good or bad with this bike.
I would say that you could fit some 40s on 100% straight wheels and still have a few mm either side.
However, as soon as you pick up some mud, it's gunna clog up immediately.
Remember the Mares is a CX bike which should be used with 33c tyres (to legally race on). It's not a gravel bike that allows for huge width tyres.

Don't think so, as the frame in the rear doesn't seem to be designed with 650 in mind ie curved and shaped chainstays. It will definitely fit 700x40 with about 3-4mm clearance on each side, but that's about it.

to find the area of the stays and fork for clearance width, they say to measure 320mm from center of the axle. that's for 650b x 38mm tire.
how much would i add to 320 mm for a 47mm tire?
I tried out a 40c WTB nano, and it fits but is tighter than I would like. How much room is enough room? This would be a dry only wheelset so I’m not worried about mud clearance but don’t want to destroy a frame with a wheel wobble or by picking up a pebble.
