So Im in the process of building my new CX bike and started getting pieces of the new Ultegra Di2.. so far I have everything but the 8070 hydraulic shifters..
The problem I have is my frame is a 2016 model with the old post mount brakes so I need to run the Shimano 785 since the new models of Dura Ace and Ultegra are flat mount.. I decided today to contact Shimano USA and asked them when the 8070 shifters would be available and asked them if it takes to long will the 9170 Dura Ace work with the new Ultegra derailleurs, or will the 785 shifters work with the new derailleurs..
I had been previously been told by 3 other sources that the 8070 shifters work perfectly fine with the 785 brakes.. I was told today by Shimano that 8070 and 9170 uses a different brake hose BH90 vs the BH59 on the 785 so the new levers will not work with the brakes!! Luckily it seems that the new derailleurs still work with the 785 shift which would make sense...

Any info on when they are being released? Jensonusa says 9/19

The Shimano Mechanic at Canadian cross nationals last year was running 785 levers with XTR Calipers. The brakes were a little bit more on/off switch then the usual set up but not huge. as far as compatibility 9170 will work with 8000 Ultegra derailleurs.

If I understand this correctly, you would use a BH90 hose, olive, and insert with a BH59 bolt to attach to the RS785, yes?
Alternatively, it may be more straightforward to buy a XT-M8000 caliper. Thought it seems most of them don't come with the fin pads, so that may cost more.

I just bought this kit and installed it between my RS685 shifters and RS785 calipers.

for ST-R9120/R9170 & ST-R8020/R8070 shifters, you will need to use the Shimano SM-BH90-JK-SSR Disc Brake Hose Kits which should allow pairing with the BR-RS505/BR-RS785 post mount calipers, and the BR-RS805/BR-R8020BR-R9120 flat mount calipers.

Is that the part setup that would come standard with the 9170/8070 shifter-caliper pairing?
If so, my inclination would be to buy the pairing rather than individual shifters, then sell off the flags-mount calipers.
Cannot say for certain as the shifter/caliper sets were not available when I ordered ours. For the ST-R9170 shifter retail box set, of the two sets I purchased about a month apart from a Japanese seller on Ebay, the first set for my wife's road bike included the correct hydraulic hoses, but the second set for my bike came with the wrong set.

I’m using 785s with BR-9170 calipers (which are the same generation as the BR-8070 calipers). I use BH-59 hoses and all is well. I suspect that BH-90 hoses would also work fine.

I have 785 shifters with 8070 calipers and I went with the BH90 hose. I read somewhere to pair the hose with the caliper, not the shifter, which is why I went BH90. But I'm not sure how true that is, the other guy seems to be using the BH59 just fine.
