Tubeless options for CX racing
Moderator: Moderator Team
Can't really offer much in the way of recent CX racing on tubeless as I always raced tubulars, but I am enjoying nice all-conditions riding with Schwalbe G-One Speed tires, but I would add that these are mounted on Enve M60 wheels which are 100% tubeless compatible. I make that distinction because experience with the original, non-tubeless Enve Twenty9 XC wheels yielded less than stellar results despite using 3 layers of Stan's (now use DT Swiss tubeless tape), I could not get them the tires to seal reliably, and anything less than 35-psi resulted in several flats.

I also have been riding the Schwalbe G-One on gravel and some double track. They work nicely. That's a bit why I'm seeing the options for CX tubeless. In the past I raced tubulars and last year clincher Clement with a latex tube, which was pretty good.
Clement MXP - 468g (tubeless), 340g(clincher)
Clement PDX - 420g (tubeless), 325g(clincher)
Schwalbe X-One - 393g
Specialized Tracer Pro - 365g
Maxxis All Terrane - 375g for the 120tpi
Vittoria Terreno Mix TNT G+ - 420g
Latex tube vittoria 80g
Sealant ?
Gravel options :
Schwalbe G-one - 415g (35mm)
Clement MSO 36mm - 440g
Specialized Trigger Pro - 490g

Honestly, i was estranged on how good these tires worked.
They felt very fast and nimble, i rode several trails and some mild mtb tracks, i rode gravel and i was never disappointed.
Only thing i had wished was a wider/ fatter version for more damping.
Then came Overide, which in comparison is much more damping, but not as fast and not same grip (sadly).
To be honest, i am disappointed in the Overide.
If i was looking for something like a cx tire, i would seriously pick BM CX right away.
I really recommend you try them. I used the tubeless 34mm version. They do not blow out big on a rim 21.6mm internally.
I think they actually are 34 or even less wide on this rim (Avion)

[*]Clement's tubeless line is all 33c.
[*]Have heard anecdotes about Maxxis tubeless tires not playing well with all rims, but have no personal experience with any of them.
[*]Hutchinson and Specialized also offer tubeless options.
[*]Kenda's line is tubeless compatible and they have both 33s for the UCI-confined and 35/36 for us mere beer-leaguers who want the extra volume. I'll probably be rolling on the Kommando X 36mm this upcoming season.
Other "big" options include the WTB Riddler 37c, WTB Nano 40c, and the Ritchey Shield 35c.

I am really hoping to find an alternative to tubulars for next year.
Any recommendations on a tubeless rim brake wheelset that would work for cross racing?
The Mavic Pro Carbon UST look interesting with a 19mm internal width and new brake track

I'm not an expert on race tyre selection but I can say the X-One rolls very well and grips in mud.

85kg, 1.7bar rear, 1.3 front. it's very much on the border . if course is "rooted", add half bar, or buy new rims..
Vittoria, even not tnt works fine, Hutchinson too. Same vulcanized Challenge. Conti doesn't work at all ( and good, they have nothing worth any attention for cx (33mm)).
Mamba is relatively light, fast, puncture resistant and -considering "weird" thread- grippy on hard surfaces, including ...ice. Yes, ice. Wears off really slow, so works fine as commmuting tire as well.
