I can't find any weight comparison tables. Does anyone know or have recommendations for the lightest 700c tubeless 40mm gravel tire?

Marin, that tire is like a huge width road race tire.
I wouldn't dream of comparing Maxxis Rambler with this Compass tire.
Again i sense that gravel is such a undistinct and broad name.
Where i ride there is alot of big stones, roads with endless potholes and washboard textures are very common.
Also trails and some mtb tracks.
Tires like G-One and Overide is not sufficent for traction and grip when it comes to cornering.
But these Compass tires, i give it to them, they're light... but no thanks!

I think these are going to be my best bet. These tires seem to get great reviews and they're definitely among the lightest in the class.

I am also still considering the Challenge Gravel Grinder Pros because I've heard they mount up tubeless well enough.

FWIW...When we asks for 40mm wide tires (stated), we should also consider tire-stretch and rim-width profile to get a better measured width.

For example, my Panaracer Gravel King SK 35mm measures ~38mm on my wheels (Reynolds ATR with 21mm inner width). Based on what I've read, the Maxxis Rambler is on the "smaller" side and often measures around ~38mm. btw...my Panaracer weighs ~375g.

Great tires. I had the Panaracer Gravel King SK 40cs, and they were stellar. Not terribly heavy, but they wore pretty quickly. The Ramblers in 40c are a claimed 375g.

I'm running these on a Niner BSB 9 RDO, so even with a 40c there's some wiggle room for tire stretch.

That's why the new tires are deemed 700*43 and 700*38. It's the same width as before, but the tires were designed on 17.5mm inner width rims.
I have "the old" 700*40 (TR), 700*35 (tubed) and the new 700*38 (TR) also ingoing, the new 650*48 (TR).

I have the 35mm Compass Bon Jon pass extralites. They work really well on gravel I rode in Austria and Croatia. Knobs are for mud but don't help at all on gravel in my experience.

I mailed Challenge about this, mounting tubeless. They recommended me "not" to do so.
Due to risk of tire coming off.

As this was aimed to be used at my No tubes Avion, i first asked Stans technical department.
They told me not to do it!
Same reason...

At this point, i did not do it.

Make of it what you want. The risk we run is that the tire come off the rim.
This is most likely if you corner hard.
It's not funny, it happened to me once (i rather not experience this again)!
Did a hard left turn, i felt as if i had punctured in a millisecond and i was about to shit my bibs.
As sudden, i had a nice flight and smashed onto the ground followed by two flips.
I was banged up pretty nicely as i first landed on head/shoulder.
Got up and checked the bike, no air in tire and it hanged totally flat, sealant all over.
As this was not enough i had the honor to walk about 20km home carrying the bike.
Luckily the bike came out undamaged which was positive (i took the hit)
Only thing that happened, left shifter was moved inwards (not damaged though) and no damage to the bike otherwise.

FYI -- New "old" version of 700x35 (now 700x38) is also tubeless compatible. I confirmed with Panaracer before purchase.

Yes, the new 700*38 is easy to seat and mount (and as stated), they are TR.
The new 700*38, is spot on 40mm wide on my Avion.
The "old" 700*35 version is not TR and i could not make them seat on my Avion.

What you should consider, if the old 700*35 was tubeless compatible, WHY would Panaracer go ahead and design both the old tubed version and the new tubeless version?
There would be no reason. I have both and again i repeat, they are not same in sidewall stiffness.
If you would have both these versions at hand (as i clearly have), you would notice when you are about to mount them, they are indeed not same tires with the only difference would be the specs of width.

The "old" 700*40 (aka new 700*43) is very wide on my Avion (43mm).
That is what i wrote Panaracer. I told them tires are several mms wider than stated using 21,6mm internal width rims.
They told me, when designed, it was not common with the wider "new rims".
So tires were designed around 17.5mm inner width rims.
Thereof, the change of spec.

At some route the 700*40 (43mm on Avion) must have caught debris, because clearance to seat tube is close and the paint is "sanded".

Using large 700C tires often build up height and width on my Avions.
Possible frame clearance is height, not width.

Using 650B tires, possible frame clearance issue on my frame is width.
On 22mm (inner width) 650B rims, i use 27,5*2,00 tires, width is 52mm.

It will be interesting to see if the new GravelKing SK 650B tires, will be faster than my other 650B tires.

They should possibly be less wide. But weight would be same.

Vredestein Spotted Cat 27,5*2,00, lite version is 540g.
Hutchinson Black Mamba 27,5*2,00 is 500g.
New Panaracer 27,5*1,90 has a spec of 540g (true weight unknown so far)
Have not received them yet.
