DT Swiss 350 12x100
Moderator: Moderator Team
My new frame needs 12x100 front thru axle. It comes with the axle but need to source a hub. According to the DT front end cap table only 'road' version of 350 hub is compatible I am guessing because it comes in 15x100 variant (vs MTB hub thats QR) the bearing is wide enough for a 12mm axle so just need to swap end caps. Anyone has pics/experience of converting front DT 350 hub?
Thanks in advance.

DT 350 front hubs don't have the same swappable end caps like the 240. They can be taken out, but they don't market the hub as swappable. Getting the 350 endcaps off is a chore, which is the first indication they don't want you to take them off. Even finding a set of 15mm thru or QR endcaps for 350 is a challenge. The 240 ones are not compatible with 350 hubs either. This was learned from personal experience last year BTW.
I met a guy in Utah who worked for DT USA and he said they do this to keep people from simply sacrificing a few grams for the same basic hub as the 240. The front isn't packed with technology like the rear. It is mostly a bearing and spoke holder. Of course I am simplifying the answer he gave me.

Ah sounds painful but I went to a shop yesterday where they had a 350 front ceterlock hub in MTB variant and I could just pop the caps off with my hands like Hope hubs.
The only issue is that it was MTB QR hub which CANT be converted the road variant can be which comes in 15x100 so hoping the end caps come off just as easily.
Its part number HWGXXX00S6885S from here: https://www.dtswiss.com/Accessories/End-cap-solution
Some shops here have it on stock. https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8; ... =1000,4,32
Compatibility chart here: https://www.dtswiss.com/Resources/Suppo ... -front.pdf
Exploded diagram here (page 19): https://www.dtswiss.com/Resources/Suppo ... cal-Manual
Then the only question is IF it can be converted using that part then will a 15mm bearing work with 12mm axle?

Yep got an email from DT to confirm this
Will take pics and post here for future reference or till the next 'standard' arrives and 12x100 is obsolete.

the "Technloy packed" in 350 and 240 (and 340, 190 & 180) is identical - only the hubshells defer... - well 180 has ceramic bearings and the 190 had ceramic bearings in both hub and freehub which im not convinced is better. I wont call the faster eganging ratchets 36, 48 and 54 better. They are just different (and swapable). All the ratchet hub series hubs have swappable internals.
I own a cupple of DT hubs:
DT 180cl rear with 18t ratchet and Shimano 10 speed lightweight body
DT 340 6hole rear with 36t ratchet and Shimano 10 speed body
DT 350cm front
DT 190 rear with 18t ratchet and Campagnolo 11 speed body
DT 190 front
to be honest - the bearings in my 350cl are smother than those in my DT 190 front and i cant feel any difference between my DT340 and DT 180 rear either. The 190 rear is perhaps a little smoother but that may just be the freehub/sealing that difers a bit.
All the ratchet hubs series are really nice, cost just diferes reg features and weight.

Virtually ALL front 350 hubs are convertible, however was a series sold as "QR" which isn't. If one want to convert front hub from one standard to another, original purchase must be any thru axle. NOT quick release. If hub comes as TA from factory, then it is convertible. If it comes as QR may be or may be not.
Same applies to "Spline" hubs. But here DT made clear statement about conversion of front hub.
