The new Hutchinson Caracal Race tests very fast. It's a shame its only availible in one size (40mm) so far. Hopefully Hutchinson start using that construction for other sizes and treads.

Yeah, that's crazy fast. As fast as an S TR at relative pressures. Miles faster than anything else.

I really want to see this in 45 and 50. Also, if they can do the same 'Race Lab' construction on a Touareg, maybe there's a new king in town for all round gravel tire (displacing Thundero iterations).

A 35 would be really interesting for road bikes with decent clearance. Particularly as a rear tire, where aero doesn't really matter. More and more aero bikes will fit a 35 at the back, let alone all road bikes. 35 rear in this, maybe a future larger size Comtura Prima or 32 S TR front. Perfect for bad road surfaces.

It's years since Hutchinson have produced a really competitive, let alone market leading tire. So this is very surprising.

I reveiced a pair of the Hutchinson Caracal Race tyres.
One weighs 471gr and measures 41mm on 25mm rim, the other weighs 490gr and measures 43mm on 25mm rim.

Is that 35c tyre? I only spoted this width.
The weight differance I could understand, but how is it possible that one measures 2mm more on the same internal rim? Is then the extra weight on the sidewals of the tyre?

Only 40mm available at the moment.
I have no idea, my Tufo Thundero's measured the same front and back.

Assuming that they're both seated correctly, that's a huge variance in width between two samples.

First report on BRR of someone who flatted his front Caracal Race tyre within his first 200km.

Good to keep an eye out for other experiences on this.

Y very interested in Caracal, could be a great 50/50 option which a lot of my gravel rides tend to be. For now I’m on Thundero 40’s for same purpose and they work well but I haven’t beat on them very hard (I hear they can be fragile)

Y very interested in Caracal, I mean anyone can flat at any time and the BRR pieces did say it was a but thin which makes sense since it’s fast, but could be a great 50/50 option which a lot of my gravel rides tend to be. I hope the BRR will test the standard Caracal too. It would be interesting to see, how much the better puncture protection really increases the RR.

Curious to try the Caracal race but can't seem to find them in N. America (or anywhere online actually). Seems only a few places stock them and they're sold out.

It'll be garbage like all the other similar construction / compound tires tested.

Just received my Tufo Swampero HD 44mm in Tan wall, they are a fair bit over the 480g spec weight, as mine weigh 537g on my scales. I am not that fussed as 110g or so extra weight in the scheme of things is minor as I weigh 85kg, and I can (should!) lose around 5-8kg to be a bit nearer race weight.

One thing that I did notice is that the tread depth / tyre knobs are not as aggressive (high) as the pictures indicate, certainly down the middle section of the tyre, which for me is a good thing as they look like an even better all rounder tread pattern in the flesh. The tread also feels quite soft, grippy rubber, so all in all looking forward to getting them on the new bike.

Once my new rig is built and I can get some serious training KM's/miles in before my event in June, I will report back, as it wil be good to compare to the Pirelli Cinturato M (40mm) I have been using, and the 43mm Gravelkings I used previously.

I would post some images that are saved on my phone/PC, I am sure it used to be easy, but now seems difficult to find/see how to do so or you need to use an image hosting site, which seems a bit of a faff.

Would also be very interested to hear how you get on. How do the 44's size up compared to Pirelli? My 40c Pirelli's blow up to 42mm actual. If the Tufos are fire to 44 I could squeeze them on my Aspero
I put the 700x44 Swampero on some 25mm internal rim wheels and they ended up close to 46mm. The one thing I will say is that they rolled great and had phenominal traction in the loose stuff. I was just going to use this as a front tire in the big mountains but they were so well, I thnk I am going to use them everywhere. Swampero front tire, and Thundero rear tire seem like a perfect combo.

Did not use this one, but if u need a wide fast and robust tire I can recommend tufo thundero HD with effetto Mariposa caffelatex sealant. I am rocking 44s and they are fast and strong. Did not have a single issue all year.
