This is an L, correct? I'm debating if 72.5 HTA with 50mm rake is not too low of a trail for gravel bike - how do you find it?
Yep, large.

It's not too low, especially when inbetween sizes (M-L).

I built a medium for my mate in the purple jersey, he's a bit shorter than me (178 to my 183cm), and it's still very aggressive even with 20mm of spacers.

My bike is perfect as it is for summer hardpack routes and road riding, but for the really technical stuff and extreme slop, I could have done with something a little more upright and faster to react, hence why I'm thinking of going for a 90mm stem.

Thanks - no doubts about stack :) I was wondering is the trail not too low though.

72.5 HTA and 50mm rake creates something around 58mm trail with 38mm tyres, which is very low compared to most of current gravel frames - do you find it ok on the rougher stuff? Ie not too twitchy/unstable?

No, it's super composed. Appreciate it essentially has road geo, but it would feel sluggish with a slacker HTA IMO.

But to caveat the above, I've only hit the hard stuff on 650b x 48 & 55mm, but have friends with the same bike running 700x40 and love the handling.

All good to know.
I'm shortly to build up a medium UPPER. I'm 5'10.
I'll be carefully setting up against my road fit geometry before making any irreversible changes.

I've got a nice 100mm Kalloy Uno with ti bolts - 93g on my scales.
That's based on a broad comparison with existing bikes and bikefit info.
If I need to, I'll get a longer or shorter Kalloy - only about £18 or so. I won't really know until I build tbe bike up and ride / adjust.

Thank you.. I am 5'10.5" and have a 110 stem on my new size 54 Crux (~10mm shorter reach compare to my road fit).. I wouldn't mind trying an UPPER at some point and find myself between a M and L. For me to replicate my current Crux fit on a M, i would need to have a 120mm stem which seams long for a gravel bike (maybe just me?).

Happy for you to have a play on my UPPER once built, if you are nearby.
The initial build will have a rather eclectic parts mix, but the ride should shine through (independent of the bits).
I'll be running road eTap 11 setup with mech /cable hybrid brake and Hunt aero 50 with 30mm Schwalbe G One tyres, until next September when I can make the next wave of purchases (hopefully by then the supply issues will ease, and my next year's Cyclescheme voucher emerges)

How do you find the rolling resistance of the hurricane? i am currently running Gravel king SS 38mm. but looking at the Steilacoom or terra speed to replace it for a bit more grip. but would hate to sacrisfice rolling resistance. have you tried any of these tires and can compare them a bit ?

Are your rims the gravel MCFK rims or the regular road ones? I only ask because I'm building up a Crux and ordered the MCFK gravel rims with Sapim spokes. Unless my scale needs calibration (and it very well could), my wheelset plus rim tape plus valves comes to a porky 1301. Any idea where the difference lies?

24mm ID gravel rims.
35mm deep.
CX Ray spokes.
DT180 EXP hubs.

Mine were weighed without tape and valves.

Thanks for the reply. I built the exact same rim -- down to the spokes and hub -- so it must be the tape and the valves that accounts for the additional grams.

I don't know about you, but I was surprised to find they came in over 1300. I haven't weighed the terra clx in person, but specialized claims a 1296 weight with rim tape and valves. Granted, those are shallower rims.

My 2 month old Shimano XTR 9100 XC Race pedals have both developed a very annoying click, so these are going back and I've just ordered some Xpedo M-Force 8 Ti's that should also save me circa 100g.
How are you finding the Xpedo pedals? I'm looking at these also, as the lightest SPD option.
Do you use the Shimano or Xpedo cleat?
