Campy is in the minority. Stocking different wheels, cassettes, and even chains just to offer a Campy specc'ed bike or two is bound to be a PITA for OEMs, especially if demand is small. Enough that it's not worthwhile to make the inventory commitment. If Campy were spaced the same as Shimano/SRAM, it removes a large part of that extra inventory cost and allows for Campy spec to be delivered with as little as shifters and derailleurs.

This comes from a guy who loves his Campy bikes, but runs Shimano spaced wheels, Shimano cassettes and Shimano chains on everything (with adaptations).

Sigh. I heart Campy, but they are really, really bad at strategy.

With Shimano's impending change to 11 Speed 3 years after Campagnolo with the attendant changes to freehub & OLD dimensions, Campagnolo are looking like trend setters not followers. Why should a company that despite being a mere twentieth of the size of Shimano has led in so many areas change their proven design to a new unproven design from a competitor? This is an especially bad idea when you consider how many incarnations there have been of the previous outgoing one.

Try fitting an 11 speed Campagnolo cassette to any Campagnolo hub since 9 speed without modification. It's easy. Now try the same thing with Shimano. Cant be done in many instances unless you faff around with spacers and reindexing gears.
