Weight Weenies

First, how would you rate the impact of losing weight in your shoes? That is, it seems that shoes would count somewhat as rotating mass, but I am not sure how it all fits in. For example, when hiking, the weight of your boots has a large impact (some say 1 lb in your boots is equal to 5 lbs in your pack). Second, I welcome any recommendations for light, stiff, but still comfortable shoes. I currently use Sidi Genius 4, and I am considering something new. Thanks

Don't really know how much weight actually matters, when it comes to shoes. But I just bought a pair of Specialized S-Works, and they are both extremely comfortable and very light weight! - also, they look very cool, which never hurts
If your feet are not super wide, then I would advise you to check them out

Pearl Izumi Octane SL. 3 velcro straps. 457 grams for size 44. That is 457 grams for BOTH shoes. Carbon sole. Low stack height.

I'm looking at some new shoes as well. Considering S Works, Bonti, Mavic. I like S Works features, Bonti' heat molding and Mavics weight. Not sure of comfort or durability. Any advise?

I own a pair of 2 year old S-Works that I really like, although I did have to trade out the original insole for the ++ insole (an extra $45). Even after 10+ hours in the saddle, my feet feel OK.
I really want to try the new version with the double Boa, but they aren't available anywhere in my size.

my absolute favourites are the Scott. Super light and comfortable.

I'm a big fan of light shoes. Might sound a bit ridiculous but it feels like it encourages spinning and makes higher cadence riding easier. Once you go for them it's hard to put a big pair of heavy clogs on.

Currently using the new S-works. The retention mechanism is a step forward over the old single BOA system. The pressure is spread more evenly over the whole top of the foot, giving a generally more secure feel.

Don't notice any difference in the sole, though it's claimed to be stiffer (of course).

Thanks. I have Specialized mountain biking shoes and they are extremely comfortable. I guess I will wait to see what everyone says and then try a few pairs.

Another vote for the Specialized S Works. Even accounting for the fact that its rotational mass, I don't think the differences in weight has much of a performance impact, but if you can have light, stiff and comfortable, then there's really no downside.

If you have narrow feet the diadora proracer light is a great option.

+1 for the Scott's. I have always been a Sidi man until I found the Scotts. I have wide feet and these fit like a glove.

Depends on foot width - I can't wear Shimano - too narrow.
I just bought some LG Carbon HRS shoes. We can only get them in white and red here in Australia but everywhere else can also get the black and gold version. Nice shoes.

@fdgrove, Ive the same shoes in size 43 and they weighted around 245grs as far as I can remember.

edit: didnt notice the "insole part" which indeed weight around 27grs itself. Cheers.

I got a spare set of brand new with tags Scott Limited road shoes. size is euro 43. They weigh incredible little and are more comfortable than my sidi ergo 2 carbon lite
