Long time troller, first time poster. Thought I'd share a Winter project on some Speedplay Zeros. Wanted to switch from Keo Sprints to a nice set of Zeros. The total cleat/pedal weight on the SS and ChrMo Zeros was more than the Sprints. So bought a slightly used pair of Chromoly Zeros/cleats for around $90 on Ebay and bought a set of titanium spindles of a nano design, but machined for std Zeros for around $60. (Mr. W....does VERY nice work.)

Anyway photos tell the story. Got a set of Zeros that look like Nanos, weight slightly less than stock Zero Ti's for around $150. Happy.

I'm not a big speedplay fan but this is a pretty cool mod. Who is Mr. W?

Nice first post. I know DJ will love this post, for a few reasons.

I have Speedplay Zeros with the same axles, and with aluminium bowties and ti-hardware they weigh in at 138 grams; eight grams more than the $630 Nanograms. I'll have to pull the pedals off of my bike and post up some pics with them on the scale.

Thanks for the info ! I have a set of Ti Speedplay Zeros; cro-mo and s/s too. The Ti pedal bodies spin forever. Even if I replace the bearings in the SS and Cro-mo, there's a lot of resistance. Hopefully the new Ti body will produce a smoother pedal.

If anyone is interested : I got a set of Zero bodies a while back from All3sports.com , and PBK has Speedplay bearings and small parts available.

the spindles Mr W makes also fit the X series as they are exactly the same!! I have them and the weight is 128g w/steel bolts/alloy butterflies and 126g w/ti bolts and 124g w/allot bolts! They are very nicely made and Wade ships fast too.

Speedplay offers the pedal bodies as a separate item now without spindles, FYI.

Thank you for the tip. How difficult is it to change the spindles?

You may check those Ti pedals to make sure they're properly greased internally. I'm just thinking the only way the pedal bodies would spin freely is if there is absolutely no grease in the bearings (and that's not good!). (The grease provides some resistance.)
