Bummer. It's easy enough to see their point (unfortunately, for Roberto) re the stresses placed on the post. I'm pretty sure the AX pillar would be fine on my MTB but would be MUCH less confident of using one in CX applications.
The reply saying use "massive metal parts" could probably be interpreted as "use parts of more mass".
I absolutely agree that CX should be specifically commented on as, since many manufacturers barely acknowledge Cx's existence, then having an MTB positive comment may easily be interpreted as a (tacit) yes for CX also (in the absence of any other info).
It's pretty easy to look back and say that Roberto should have contacted AX and actually asked, but, to be honest, I doubt I would have contacted them myself. This leaves me feeling pretty sad for Roberto as I don't think he's gonna get any joy from AX at all (and legally, there is little doubt that they would not be obliged to do so) and so, essentially, Roberto has just "Guinea Pig"d this application for the rest of us.
Result: Nope-don't use AX posts like this for CX.
Info: -Valuable
Cost: Roberto's
Grateful it wasn't my cost: YEP!
