Thanks. I have a close friend who had a problem with his Clavicula cranks, and managed to get his cranks sorted within 2 weeks, no questions asked, he just called them, sent them back, and they sorted it out.

I was expecting similar response from AX but it seems like it's still a bit far from happening :(

You should use massive metal parts, not elements made from fibre materials for your sport.

What an answer....!

massive metal parts, I wounder if they meant solid steel. Hollow wouldn't be considered a massive structure. Wow!

Then AX product descriptions, as applicable, should clearly state "not for cyclocross use". But you know that now - after the "fact".

Has i. A. Jutta Bauer been watching old Saturday Night Live Coneheads epiosdes? "We invite you to consume mass quantities of metal for the seat post on your cyclocross bike - from a small town in France."

Bummer. It's easy enough to see their point (unfortunately, for Roberto) re the stresses placed on the post. I'm pretty sure the AX pillar would be fine on my MTB but would be MUCH less confident of using one in CX applications.
The reply saying use "massive metal parts" could probably be interpreted as "use parts of more mass".
I absolutely agree that CX should be specifically commented on as, since many manufacturers barely acknowledge Cx's existence, then having an MTB positive comment may easily be interpreted as a (tacit) yes for CX also (in the absence of any other info).
It's pretty easy to look back and say that Roberto should have contacted AX and actually asked, but, to be honest, I doubt I would have contacted them myself. This leaves me feeling pretty sad for Roberto as I don't think he's gonna get any joy from AX at all (and legally, there is little doubt that they would not be obliged to do so) and so, essentially, Roberto has just "Guinea Pig"d this application for the rest of us.
Result: Nope-don't use AX posts like this for CX.
Info: -Valuable
Cost: Roberto's
Grateful it wasn't my cost: YEP!
Bummer mate....cheers for the research buddy : (

Agree... the best way for AX to resolve would be to send a new post, but with a note to say do not ever think about using it for CX. And Roberto certainly deserves credit for not claiming it was a JRA on his road bike...

No - that's why nothing happened with me - i was riding and realized the saddle was in a different position, stopped and realized the seatpost was broken.

The course was around the Herne Hill Velodrome - there is only one point where you have to get off the bike and then remount. It was my second cross race ever!

I just cannot understand that a WW company like AX says such a absurd statement. If their post is indeed not for cx application, they should state it clearly.

To me there is no difference between Cyclo Cross and MTB, and AX is splitting hairs. If they say the post is good for MTB it should also be good for cyclo cross.

MTB involves jumps, during the landing of which the rider's arse can often contact the saddle with considerable force. Also I've seen numerous MTB riders get off and push then jump back on cyclo cross style (or even fall off!). I suggest the chaps at AX stop sniffing epoxy resin and get out and see a few MTB and cross races before opining that x is totally different to y.

I won't be buying an AX product if this is the level of support and run-around one can expect. Roberto, please don't take this lying down - let us know the outcome of further discussions.

It's Filip Meirhaeghe, not Roel. Just for the information...

I'm not suprised it broke. At that weight, I'd be suprised if ANY of the ax posts are covered under warranty. For me, it falls into the "stupid light" category... especially for MTB/CX ... and really is there that much difference between the two?

I've had 3 daedalus posts and 3 broke, all cracked at the edge under the half pipe. No off road, no Roubaix cobbles, never went over half the torque limit on the clamp, and weigh at most 64kg. First one wasn't replaced by AX, didn't bother trying on the other 2. The saddles are great but the Daedalus sucks in my book.

i am not shocked at all. you couldn't pay me enough money to race cross on weight weenie gear. in order to win, you need to get to the line. in order to get to the line, you need a solid and reliable machine. pro's don't care what their bike weighs, just how well it works. any decent production frame fitted with a decent gruppo and decent alloy bits with perhaps a nice set of carbon fiber hoops are all anyone needs. a sub 16lb road machine is easily attainable with normal bits. as is a sub 18lb cross bike.

imho of course.
