crank options?

I have full Campy Chorus minus the brakes where I'm using Zero Gravity Ti-07's... The crank on the bike today is an older FSA (carbon) compact with Ultegra Octalink BB. I'm seriously considering investing in a Campy Chorus Ultra Torque crankset, but since I have spent more than planned already, it wouldn't be all that bad if I wait for a while to keep the peace in the house...

Would I really notice that much of a difference between the two cranks/BB configurations? I'm not a heavy rider (5'8"/143lbs) and built like a pure climber... i.e. skinny... but I do love to climb and can put out some power then...

I'm using an 06' Aluminum Record Crank on one of my bikes which you can pick up pretty cheap. Great crankset!!

I'd say get a 2006 alu record or chorus crank. One of the most elegant cranks ever in my opinion. Also stiff enough for boonen...

i made the switch from FSA sl-k to the chorus UT carbon

mainly since i had all sorts of creaking noises coming from the BB and crank that i could not bear (imagine climbing up a very quite mountain with a freind and the only thing you hear is my squeaking crankset !).

Anyhow, it solved the squeak-creak thing, and i found the bb to be much smoother (well, only after i switched, that is i did not notice the FSA had drag BEFORE i made the switch).
it does feel a little stiffer than the FSA, but that could very well be placebo effect

all in all, i am very happy with the change,

was it worth the money - as i had the creaking problem, i think it did.

BTW, after making the change, i found that i could have used a Dura Ace BB and it might have solved the creaking issues.

hope it helps,
Oren.

I guess the concensus is that it does make a very minute difference.. I think I'll keep the family peace right now and stil with my older FSA with the Octalink BB... There is the third option and that is to use the Shimano FC-R700 crank that I have, but I can't imaging running a Shimano crank with Campy everything else... Seems to be sacreligious somehow... :?
