Hello. Mavic states in their catalog that the iO wheel (the one with 5 carbon spokes) is for "track", but I have seen many riders use it in time trials in the last 2 Tours. Do any of you know on the effectiveness of this iO for time trialling?
Also, do you know why it retails for $2995.00???

Ya it tests slightly better in wind tunnels than the hed trispoke, because the io is thinner. It can be used for road but was designed for track. It's the 2nd fastest thing behind a front disc. And I have no clue why it retails for so much.....u can find it retail for $2500, but if u can find it by pro deal from a sponsored rider it'd probably be closer to $1000.

Retail may be so high because it may be expensive to make. Lot of out of true crap wheels (Hed sell those kind w/o warraty), expesive molds, slow to build, low numbers to build etc.
But I think it way over priced anyway.

Ya with Hed trispokes, its really a crapshoot. I had to send two of them back before I got one in true. The mavic iO is really overpriced, but its a damn nice wheel. I'd never pay $2500 for it though.
