Hi All
Need some advise regarding choosing a chainset for my upcoming SW Aethos build.
I am thinking between the Rotor or the Easton option, mounting Dura-Ace 12spd chainrings on whatever option. For the Easton, I can get the system 40% cheaper than the Rotor, which is also a thing. Cybrei was also on my mind, but not sure about it.
Any opinion or advise will be greatly appreciated!

The thing with Easton is their chainrings. Or if you can get a separate spider for 5 bolt chainrings. As far as i know, Easton was about the release that, but never did.
I am not keen on Rotor because i ride Sram (chainline 45mm) and Rotor uses 43.5mm or 46mm. Rotor recommends the 43.5mm version. But that was more inline with 11 speed. I think Rotor should scrap the 46mm version and update from 43.5 to 45mm. It would suit 12 speed spacing better.

Not sure about the Chinese ditos, i haven't checked the shape of their crankarms. Personally i don't like crankarms that are straight, i think the should flare out towards the pedal insert to give us a bit of space for the heel. Otherwise atleast me, scrape the heel section of the shoe against the crank.

As a former owner avoid easton they have poor stiffness to weight by modern standards from independent testing and their weights are no longer all that special compared to other options. Basically just a dated part in late 2024 and prices are dropping for a reason. The 30mm spindle is also a bit dated.

I put together my thoughts on the current state of the higher end and up market for those on Shimano groupset here for those looking to replace Shimano's boat anchor with a 28-30mm spindle option.

I didnt mention cybrei in that post. However, from someone closely following what others post, but not an owner of either I consider elilee x310 to be the more compelling ~$400 Chinese option. With that said I'd still go E1 over elilee as well but its good to see a ton of good options competing now.

At a high level I'd try and scope out the build to see how much you want to invest in chasing gram savings. The ~$400 crankarms save a lot of weight for the price over Dura-Ace but after that you pay a lot to save the last few grams and that money goes further elsewhere.

If you are more price sensitive I'd look for used D1 crankarms.

I like my Rotor carbon cranks well enough, but the chainrings were a source of great frustration for me. I abandoned them. A spider to mount shimano rings was the answer there.

I also have 2 bikes with easton cranksets. One gravel and one xc. I agree with Otterspace. The Easton stuff is dated. I would not buy new Easton at this point. In my experience the product has been solid and when I did have a problem the replacement process was fast and easy and cost me nothing. They just keep working and I plan to use them until they eventually fail. At this rate, that might be never.

If you are doing full BB/Crankset purchase, I would go E1 or D1 and call it a day. Get a spider power meter to mount whatever rings you want and call it a day.

Now that Easton is out of the way and even E1 is an option that will be more budget friendly than the Rotor, any suggestions for non-powermeter spider for mounting the Dura-Ace chainrings on the D1/E1? I saw in the treads that 5Dev is an option. Looking good, though a bit pricey.

There is a spider from stone thats 4x110 shimano and 8 bolt sram.
