Don't be a clown, it is well known problem across the whole world.cleanneon98 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 3:17 pmI haven't heard of this cassette clicking anywhere outside of a few people on this forum with repeat issues. Are we sure this isn't related to something else in the bike setup?xiyuwang wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:52 pmOk, yeah, fine, apologies, it is more complicated than I remembered.
While it is a consensus that Shimano shifts better, we all know why: hg+ (I love it, it's great on it own. True novelty to me.). Why wouldn't they do CNC instead? Because they might know less about CNC and already have a manufacturing line for lower-level and same-shaped hg+ cogs. SRAM demonstrates this is possible with the new 13sp cassette.
Higher quality? I never doubted it until I spent so much time trying to figure out what was wrong with my cassettes that made clicking noises.

I’ll second what cleanneon said. Apart from this forum I’ve literally never heard anybody mention clicking cassettes. None of the 5 cassettes (1 DA, 2 Ultegra, 2 105) I own have the issue. Nobody on any group ride or any race I’ve done have I ever heard anybody mention it. Could be a setup problem or the sound is coming from somewhere else?milanv wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:54 pmDon't be a clown, it is well known problem across the whole world.cleanneon98 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 3:17 pmI haven't heard of this cassette clicking anywhere outside of a few people on this forum with repeat issues. You realize Shimano had to make a stealth change to design of the large cluster on 9000-series cassettes to address a creaking rivet issue right? It happens less frequently now, but the play in the rivets can still develop, especially if a rider is putting a lot of torque through the largest cogs.
very true.. I have a early version of the cassette and it was fine for awhile, until that little spacer on the back came off. Visually it looks ok and not bent, but my cassette looked wobbly , so I removed it completely and the clicking went away again.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 9:22 pmLanceLegstrong wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 9:15 pm

Well that's not very nice is it. Shimano cranks are a known issue, I've never heard of this and I frequent most of the bigger forums, subreddits, YouTubers, not to mention my own equipment for the last half decade and hundreds of group rides. The only time I've personally had any noise from Shimano is when I carelessly put my chain on inside out. I'm not saying these people are making stuff up but it's weird that it happens to the same people repeatedly.milanv wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:54 pmDon't be a clown, it is well known problem across the whole world.cleanneon98 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 3:17 pmI haven't heard of this cassette clicking anywhere outside of a few people on this forum with repeat issues. That said I'd like to see a shorter cage RD again, I remember the 11s had a short and long cage and the shorter cages look much better IMO. I already swapped a DA cage onto my Ultegra RD but would love to see something really compact
Really dude? Let me google that real quick and see if it's just us...cleanneon98 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 12:54 amWell that's not very nice is it. About half of those search results aren't even about the same issue, you can't just attribute every possible noise from any Shimano drivetrain to this

Haha, no, I didn't look at all, but if half of them are not relevant, then half of them are, from a wide range of different forums. And you said, I quote:
PS: did you expect me to magically find the google search terms that got you 100% relevant results only? Are you not used to how searching the internet works?
So, Q.E.D.: you didn't hear about it because you didn't look hard enough.I've never heard of this and I frequent most of the bigger forums

If it was a well known problem across the whole world Google would surely show more than a handful of relevant threads from the last 5 years. Go Google Shimano crank failure if you want to see what a widespread problem looks like
Things I'd like to see with R9666:
1. Different crank construction - no bonding
2. An accurate - but not mandatory - power meter
3. Decent availability from the launch, not one or two years later
4. At least one closer ratio cassette with an 18T cog, like say the 11-28 that never happened
5. More than 2 cassette options (3 if you include 105); there have been at least 9 in 11 speed HG, 13 if you count MTB cassettes. it'd also be nice if there were cassettes that didn't start with 11 - we're not all Nigel Tufnel
6. 2x13 would be good if the extra cog was a useful one
I personally don't care about wireless or 1x, but if these were options it'd save a lot of moaning online, and some sort of clutched rear derailleur certainly wouldn't hurt.

A majority of people I ride with are on 12sp Shimano and not a single one of us have experienced the clicking noise. Obviously it exists but it seems rare.
My wishes for R9300:
1. Crank that matches Red weight, so that I don't need to mix groupsets anymore for the lightest setup.
2. If it goes wireless (I hope not), make it modular with the option of internal shared battery. There are way too many batteries to keep track of these days. Maybe even provide extra ports to connect my computer and Varia via the contacts on the Garmin twist mounts.
3. If it goes 13sp, just add 16t to the 11-34. I don't agree we need more than 2 or 3 cassette options because the larger tooth count is reducing compromise. We used to choose small jumps or big range. We're at the point that we have enough of both on one cassette.
4. Keep the clean derailleur form factor, ergonomics, 11t small cog, 16t chanring differential, and shifting performance. There things are currently keeping me from even considering Red.

I don't have it on several bikes, wheelsets or even smart trainer (DA + Ultegra, 12s), similarly to friends or people I know riding with.BigBoyND wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 6:00 amA majority of people I ride with are on 12sp Shimano and not a single one of us have experienced the clicking noise. That doesn't mean some could be affected. But without real numbers we all are just speculating too much.

Wow man. You can't be serious. This is an issue of pretty damn frequent and widespread mention. It makes me think you are being intentionally disingenuous? You seem a quality poster though.cleanneon98 wrote:I haven't heard of this cassette clicking anywhere outside of a few people on this forum with repeat issues.
