Those steerer spacers are insanely deep looking and I’m kind of surprised no else has thought to do this before.

Probably because it could effect steering and/or needs bigger tolerances not to interfere with the steerertube/toptube area when turning.

It's a pretty bike IMHO. But it does kinda look like an aero bike that would have come out in 2018.

well, go buy the new Madone then. but if you're after and aero bike, a proper aero, not just marketed as one, that's the way to go

The new Foil has a very deep stem & headset cap (spacers too if I ran any). It's a little annoying how far it sticks out when the handlebar is turned. My legs have rubbed it a little climbing out of the saddle.

Thanks for your confirmation, mate.
I was not even aware of the knees possibly hitting the spacer stack.

looks very simple - no dropped seatstays, no funny business round BB area, fork looks like sculpted with an axe... but maybe there's a method in this approach

Is it just me, or does it look a whole lot like the Specialized Venge Disc (RIP)? The whole frame looks very reminiscent of the Venge. Especially similar headtube profile. The Van Rysel has a deeper fork thanks to new UCI rules, but the rest of it looks really close to my eye.

Not at all. They look very different the only similarities are seat stays dropped a similar amount.

Looks like a re-imagined Venge. FAST.
