New Garmin Edge 1050, X50 etc.
Moderator: robbosmans
the cannondale C1 out front mount that came with my supersix allows you to mount the 105 but then with road nois and vibration means that where the top bolts are, the interface causes 2 bolt shaped indents on the plastic outer. i'm going to a different interface by frames and gear as this isn't ideal.

Waiting impatiently for a 850 to get released. Any have a guess when?Jaisen wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 6:37 pmDC Rainmaker said Garmin is committed to keeping the 1040/840 series at feature parity with the 1050/850 series where hardware is not the limiter. So given they will have comparable features for the foreseeable future, it really is a choice between significantly more battery (x40 series) or a brighter screen and a bell (x50 series).
Had my 1050 for a week now, and rode 120km on the weekend with it - upgraded (?) from a 1040.
Overall, quite impressed. Moved to a 1040 last year as Im now at that age where glasses are required to be able to read so I wanted a bigger screen. The 1040 screen helped but I still struggled. The brighter screen on the 1050 makes it so much easier to read without stopping to put my glasses on, so that is definitely a win.
Downside is fitting it to the mount...... I have a 2023 Canyon Aeroad with the CP0018 cockpit and a K-edge IHS mount. 1050 doesnt fit unless you angle the mount/screen down towards front wheel - certainly wont fit the 1050 in the position I had the 1040 previously. Whilst its not ideal to angle it down and away from me slightly, I can live with it short term. I did reach out to K-edge who were obviously aware of the (their words...) 'headache' that garmin had caused with the 1050 release. K-edge asked me to send some photos through for their engineering team as they look at options etc. Im hopeful they may be able to increase the size of the front section of the mount by 7mm or so and then perhaps just sell that piece to enable a retro-fit for existing users. Time will tell.
in the meantime, if anyone comes up with a solution for the CP0018/K-edge IHS & 1050 conundrum, I'd love to hear about it.

the guy at frames and gear does an excellent mount but if running the 1050 you will need to ask him to do the 1050 version of this mount. it clears the front of the bars as opposed tho other mounts that are between 5-10mm too short.

Frames and gear also just released this alloy version replacement quarter turn insert.

Can anyone confirm if the 1050 is compatible with Deda Superbox mount <https://dedaelementi.com/superbox-mount-superbox-mount>?
I don't think there will be an 850 or any other x50s. I think this was going to be a stopgap screen upgrade until x60 series. I suspect plans are in a state of flux at Garmin now waiting to see if Wahoo's wind sensor actually works. Because despite their non-existent eco system, and lack of data options, the integrated wind sensor could be a game changer which they have to respond to.CT43 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 3:34 amWaiting impatiently for a 850 to get released. the other thing with the 1050 is it is pretty clear that the battery life is going to be far less on a smaller 8** or 5** so there is without garmin investing in any lighter weight more efficient cells, they won't be able to power a device for an acceptable period. bit like an old 1000 or 520 where you have to turn everything down to record your ride...
Screen power use scales with length x width and so does battery capacity. But a device with the surface of a 540/840 and the height of a 1050 would certainly appear a bit obese.Philbar72 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 11:47 amthe other thing with the 1050 is it is pretty clear that the battery life is going to be far less on a smaller 8** or 5** so there is without garmin investing in any lighter weight more efficient cells, they won't be able to power a device for an acceptable period. bit like an old 1000 or 520 where you have to turn everything down to record your ride...
But I agree that the smaller 50s might get skipped: it's certainly not bad for business if people eager to have a hungry screen are pulled up to the highest price tier. Would be a waste of upselling to introduce small 50ies. Then on the other hand the name suggests that they do come, would be weird to jump to 560/860/1060 solar/1060.
In the end it's Garmin being Garmin, whenever they enter a stage where their portfolio gets close to follow some inner logic they find new ways to break the would-be rules
There was a post on another site that suggested sticking a Ravemen light below 1050 to raise it above bar.no47 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 6:41 amHad my 1050 for a week now, and rode 120km on the weekend with it - upgraded (?) from a 1040.

Could someone measure with a caliper the dimension from the center of mount to bottom of 1050? Coulnd't find this online anywhere.
The more useful measurement would actually be the diagaonal distance from the center line of 1050 mount to either bottom corner in order to gauge removal ability. I have just over 6 cm available for this on a Deda Superbox stem mount.jff6791 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 1:15 amThere was a post on another site that suggested sticking a Ravemen light below 1050 to raise it above bar.no47 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 6:41 amHad my 1050 for a week now, and rode 120km on the weekend with it - upgraded (?) from a 1040.

There is a fit mount template available in the manuals section on garmin.com:

The above link is for US letter size print out but look at the other languages where some have this available for printing on A4 size.

It's about 6.5 cm to the furthest corner.
