Changing out the Pirellis for 28mm GP5K TTs would save 140g. Using 29mm ENVE SES Race Days would save 210g.

The K-Edge Madone Gen mount does allow the 1050 to mount.

Nice bike but top cap covers still awful. Went with the open cap in the end.

One last comment: the Garmin mount is too short for the 1050. Anybody find any alternative mount?

I talked with Trek Spain and they told me that they stopped production of the current mount and the new bikes didn't come with it because of the 1050 incompatibility. A new mount will be available in a month or so.

No matter what I do, my bikes always end up weighing 7.5kg lol.

I’ve put on Enve 4.5s, am waiting on tires. I went ahead and put a 10-36t E1 cassette and put an E1 front derailleur on. Also put on some wireless blips and the K-Edge mount which is heavier than the stock mount but can support the 1050.

Noticed that whoever built the bike at Trek tightened the cages on too tight and damaged one of my cages. Lame.

Additionally, my E1 cassette is defective (there’s only noise in one cog, the fourth, and there appears to be a tooth that wasn’t shaped properly).

Without tires and sealant, I am at 6.82kg. 7.5kg here I come!

At least it seems like their claims of weight savings over the Gen 7 seem to hold up and while the SL8 seems better in every measurable way on paper, I still prefer this unique look and would still take this over the Spesh

I assume you haven't ridden it yet? Will be curious to hear your take compared to the SSE you had (that was you, right?)

I have only been able to ride it briefly on the trainer, unfortunately. Can’t wait to get it outside. First reaction is interesting geometry, seems like it will be a very lively bike to ride.

I am convinced that Trek’s weight claims are accurate and that it’s relatively heavy and wider tires combining with those dumb rim strips that bring the weight up. It’s at least 300g lighter than my Aeroad CFR that had a lighter groupset on it.

Yes, I’ve had a lot of experience with the SSE and love it with two small and significant exceptions: 1) that stupid seatpost that will creak no matter what you do. The only thing that helped was going to a zero-offset post, but that ruined the rear end comfort and balance for me 2) the front end was never quite stiff enough. Otherwise I strongly preferred it to the SL8 which I found to be a bit too stiff in the front. I also think the SL8 is ugly.

I’m hoping the Madone can capture the SSE vibe without the issues while also injecting some of the steering precision of the SL8.

The geo is very similar to Gen 7 and it's a very agile bike, some reviews said it was twitchy but I don't find that. Hope you like it, more bikes with holes is a good thing

FWIW my G7 with Ultegra and the RSL wheels is 7.5 no pedals/cages/mounts

I'm really looking forward to riding it. I've had bronchitis and the weather is awful here, so not looking great for riding outside this week.

I've also decided to give the new Aeolus RSL cotton tires a try in 30c.

Got the Aeolus RSL Tires in 30c. Weigh in at 320g a piece. Seem to be made by Vittoria. Very similar to casing of Corsa Pro. Has a more textured tread and I’m guessing a bit grippier compound.

Hope it punctures less than the Corsa Pros!

They measure about 31.5mm on my 25mm IW Enve 4.5s.
