You can Zero them over Ant+ / Bluetooth.

The problem comes when you want to change settings etc. if the app has stoped working.

Oh, good point. Can you calibrate it with a Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt (first gen) without the Stages App?
Your training software such as Trainer Road is also able to calibrate them

I wanted to calibrate it again after a bettery swap, but the iphone App can´t connect to the powermeter anymore.
Thanks!
Is your PM listed under connected devices in the iphone bluetooth menu?
Sometimes it works to click the "forget device" and turn bluetooth on/off.
Edit: And close/restart app properly.

It looks like Giant will have its assets liquidated to them by the court. So zero. Even if Stages win the case, the best they can hope for is for brand and IP to be sold for a few pennies. As gone over earlier, there's almost no chance they get picked up as a going concern. RIP.

You are right. The BT entry is gone in my iPhone. That´s strange.
Thank you for the hint!

I've always disliked Stages for their failing powermeters and out of warranty support (just as 4iiii), so couldn't be bothered. Just appreciate that they brought powermeters to an affordable level and move on with life.

Their current power meter is shit and stages is not shit. They could buy stages and use it. Pretty straightforward.

Crank-based solutions are poor because the forces seen by the strain gauges are not in a single plane. With a spider-based power meter the strain gauges are positioned roughly in the same plane as the chainline. With pedals, designs like the Garmin Rally are better than pod-based designs because the strain gauges are directly under-foot. With spindle-based power meters, the spindle is isolated from non-rotational forces because it is braced by the bottom-bracket.

Shimano definitely shouldn’t just take the existing Stages product and use it as is with a little rebranding. They should do spiders and pedals like everyone else.
I don't disagree with you, when I bought my assiomas, for reasons you state, among others, are why I went with pedal instead of crank.

But it doesn't change the fact that shimano's current pm is shit, stages pm is not shit, they could buy it and use it and offer a not shit pm.

I don’t think you get it. Crank-based PMs are shit, Stages included. Stages’s power meter accuracy is affected by battery voltage and imperfect pedaling styles. Stages might have some IP worth vulturing, but Shimano absolutely should not do what you’re suggesting.
Yes they should.

I calibrated my powermeter yesterday via my Garmin watch. However, I am also concerned about settings only available through the app (Gyroscope, linking L/R sides). It's not unheard of for apps to disappear from the app store/stop working after a few iterations of the phone OS/etc.
What's more likely to happen in this case is that now they are bankrupt nobody will pay Apple the yearly $79 for the developer account, so at a certain moment this or next year, their app(s) simply disappear from the App Store.

What settings would that be? AFAIK my single sided power meter has zero settings I use. Only calibration.

Enabling/disabling accelerometer and pairing/unpairing dual sided cranks are the main ones.

If you have the Stages app + a BLE sniffer app it shouldn't be hard to reverse engineer those. It just requires someone with a dual sided PM and the knowledge/time to do this. I doubt Stages will sue you if you make an open source app that includes these features.

Software engineer here with a dual sided PM.

I'd sooner spend £600-1000 on new cranks than mess around trying to reverse engineer and recreate the stages app/process :D

I didn't say it makes sense from a financial point of view. Most open source software doesn't make sense financially :D

(Freelance software dev here, would indeed be more economically efficient to simply buy new ones).

r2bike is running low on battery covers, the right side one is already sold out. The only other place I was able to get a few spares is the Stages Europe site itself. We shall see...
