Incoming: Seka Spear, '690g' frameset
Moderator: robbosmans
Only seen a quick video on their instagram page, plus a twitter/x post.. But looking mean. What do you think? Chainstays wild!
Attached the Chinese if anyone understands. Presume it is 15990 rmb (£1788/ 2200usd).no idea on bb etc, but might well be my new frame. Release April 27th
What do you con? Any more info? Their rdc / factor copy frame sounded great if not the stiffest. Hope it solves it

It's probably just a marketing gimmick, but I like it. But it will be a nightmare to clean from mud.

Yea I have a Dengfu frame and am looking to do a Tan Tan or Velobuild next. I don't see what SEKA/Winspace does that makes their frames worth 3-4x the money. I think Elves is about as high as an open mold frame outfit can realistically go.BikeTyson wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 11:59 amI'm with you. I have a $750 VeloBuild that's nice but that was with custom paint and shipping. I think the frameset is like $500. Paying $2k for an open mold? Hard pass. I'm going big brand with a warrenty and local shops for supprt at that price. Until we have years of putting out quality products without major issues, or at least just show that you support your product after the sale and won't ghost us once we've given you money, it's going to be a no from me dawg.
It's a bummer that Seka blew it by contracting with cycling100. They seem to have lost a lot of trust with the WW community. However, it would be worth investigating to see how distributors like CCache likes doing business with them.
As for the Spear - it looks like it could be pretty sweet. But does it replace the Exceed? Seems like a very similar bike.

Very pretty bike. Hard to tell but the downtube looks to have some unusual shaping as well.
2200usd doesn't sound too bad but you can also get a TCR for the same with storefront support...
These brands may be hitting the ceiling of consumer tolerance without real support... but I said the same about Canyon and they do fine with garbage service and mail order.
Maybe SEKA just needs to sponsor a pro team...

Influencers and marketing!
Also, coming on this board and pimping the Seka frame. Look at the original Seka topic - a lot of new users with low feedback asking about the frame, saying I'm going to get one, etc. A Seka may be a fine frame but pimping it on WW with fake accounts turns me off.
The Exceed thread was pretty much the only place to get info on that frame on the internet. OFC newbies are going to join and ask questions about real world experiences. We should be grateful we have resources such as WW and internet forums and people willing to share photos and info on any subject.AJS914 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 7:29 pmInfluencers and marketing!

Smells like broke Do you know people are allowed to buy nice things and build bikes that don't look like they will fall apart? Also Seka doesn't give a single *f##k* about marketing outside of China, probably why you haven't heard anything.
Winspace is legitimately open mold, while Seka at least has its own designs. They also don't spend nearly as much on influencers and marketing. The only Western influencer I know of who covered Seka, Cam Nicholls, was sponsored by a distributor, not the brand itself. Nicholls then released a video advising people not to buy it due to availability issues with the distributor. That distributor is now out of business.AJS914 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 7:29 pmInfluencers and marketing!

I don't envy people who own Winspace frames or wheels. I'd put Seka in a different realm.
By saying the OP of the Exceed thread still only has 3 posts, you're admitting we are not being marketed to by the OP?
Would they not do a larger marketing push? Making posts here is free
If the post was started by someone more reputable would you still think the thread was created for marketing purposes only?
Would no one else ever have made a thread on it?
Have you looked through the thread?
Please tell us of all the places in the thread where you feel you are being marketed to. I can point out many more instances where people found the only place on the western internet that has any sort of information on the brand and are excitedly sharing their new bike. Along with many people sharing their failures on it.
How can bro say shit like this when he is actively seeking out information on counterfeits? Sorta embarassing, but you do you.

I thought the Exceed RDC was very good quality but in the end I ended up selling it and taking a big haircut because of it being 'no name' in NZ. I wanted a more horizontal top tube which the marketing pics sort of made it look (kinda like what a propel has). I like the steatstay design in this new model but probably wouldn't buy again.
I still have a caad12 and like the flat top tube.. Wonder what the new specs ar will be like(never seen a seka in the flesh.. Cycling 100 certainly did them over!).DeathClassic wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 2:52 amI thought the Exceed RDC was very good quality but in the end I ended up selling it and taking a big haircut because of it being 'no name' in NZ. No issues with stiffness then? Guess I wouldn't notice, moving from a 2016 caad12 with old carbon wheels anyway

That's the point. Nobody cares if people buy nice things. The question is whether SEKA is actually a nice thing. Especially when you can spend just a little more and get a proven nice thing with the big brands.dudemanppl wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 1:02 amSmells like broke Do you know people are allowed to buy nice things and build bikes that don't look like they will fall apart?
