2024 product release rumors

I do gran fondo and super fondo, and need navigation all the way. Some events even start at 2-4 am, riding in the dark. Even you don't do long ride, why do you find excuse for compromise on such price tag (and its size and weight)? Remeber battery has cyclic degradation, charging seven or eight times a month give you a way faster degradation.LedZeppelin007 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:18 pmWahoo really should’ve made sure that the basic features were available for launch. Other than that:
1) I like the screen size, wish they could’ve made the unit a bit smaller on the whole
2) LOVE the wind sensor. Awesome idea. If they would ever allow third party development, it wouldn’t be difficult to generate a CdA estimate. As it stands, this is a really cool feature and provides a lot more value than people seem to think.
Assuming that they are of necessary precision (a big assumption), the unit has all of the necessary sensors to compute CdA (barometric sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, wind sensor) if you enter total system weight, a rolling resistance estimate, and if it can pull any other environmental info from local conditions.
3) Worried that it’s going to snap some mounts
4) Battery life is fine. How many of you all ride for more than 12 hours at a go? And if you do, use the backlight 5s off option and you’re good
5) New UI is far superior
6) Too chonky for MTB

Yeah, I've covered this in my review, as well as assessing how accurate the wind speed from Ace is

I feel like at $600 from one of the two biggest brands making bike computers, it should be pretty much perfect out of the box.

Excellent as always from you, Ronan. It will be interesting to see what they do. I seem to be much more bullish on this unit than others.
I really don’t see how this couldn’t do something similar to what mywindsock does now, just more accurately. I really hope that Wahoo can figure out how to measure wind yaw. Those data are really useful, IMHO. For example, If I know that 98% of my local riding is done at 5 degree yaw or less, then I’m strongly considering running shallower wheels.

If they've only got one sensor for wind speed I really doubt they'll ever be able to "figure out" how to tease the independent variable of angle out. They presumably don't even technically have wind speed, they just have a conflation of the two.
If the bezels at the top and bottom weren't gigantic, it almost looks like you could fit the Ace display in the Roam case.
Brilliant work with this review!ronanmclaughlin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:49 pmYeah, I've covered this in my review, as well as assessing how accurate the wind speed from Ace is

Measuring wind is at the same ballpark as measuring power on bikes. Measuring wind is just much more difficult otherwise people would have developed this before power. This is just a first step in a line of many other steps until the tech arrives to the standard we know have for powermeters.
As a long time Wahoo ELEMNT user I will really miss the LEDs. I found them incredibly useful, particularly when training in low light in winter. With the LEDs it was very easy to understand the zone you are riding in, power or HR.
I still hope Wahoo come out with an upgraded ROAM or BOLT, this product is far to big and over-specified for me.

I think we need to get away from the concept of an "aero" sensor here. If we can see this as a general wind intensity / direction grader (like the temp gauge), there's some value there when comparing efforts and Strava KOMs. Maybe it'd be helpful in estimating route duration.ronanmclaughlin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:49 pmYeah, I've covered this in my review, as well as assessing how accurate the wind speed from Ace is

I can't be the only person who simply looks at trees or flags to see which way the wind blows
Nope - and my face and legs tell me of head or tailwinds.

I can reasonably guess what my heart rate is and what power I’m putting out, but I still use an HRM and a power meter.
This is like mywindsock or the windfield app but with data actually collected from the ride. I find that to be very interesting and potentially quite useful.
