Does everybody use recommended Paceline X rotors? At 132g for 160mm rotor I am tempted to save more than 20g per rotor and use Shimano XT RT-MT800. Any reason for taking Paceline X besides brand purity? Will they be stronger, more silent...? Saving weight is nice but braking is important so checking with you... Thanks!
I don't think they function any differently than the previous Centerline XR rotors. You can save 70g by going with Galfers. I have switched to them on all bikes and like them a lot.

I switched to Galfers and I saved 110 grams and 50% of the braking power. When half of the disc is holes that's what you get. But they are still adequate

I haven't experienced that. But okay

I have to agree, having used Campy, Centreline and Galfer rotors with Red I do not detect any decrease in braking power from the lighter Galfers.

I do suspect Galfers will be able to absorb less heat than the other two rotors due to reduced mass, but that only comes into play under quite extreme usage, e.g. alpine descents. Under everyday braking Galfers provide as much power as the others.

My Galfers make a patterned noise after they reach a certain temperature on steep, technical descents. They also require the use of a shim when used with externally notched lockrings.

Can you please elaborate on why/when to use a shim? I don't think I understand how an external vs internal notched lockring would make a difference.

The Galfer “Road Wave” centerlock rotors are natively 6-bolt. A shim is necessary when you use a lockring that is larger in diameter than the 6-bolt adapter.

Ah! That makes sense. Thank you.

Galfer supply an external notch lockring with the rotors. I guess it already has a shim or is just small enough? I never thought twice about it until now.

It comes with the shim. Most internally notched lockrings are small enough and don't need the shim. Some like the ENVE lockrings would need a shim.

A question, can anyone verify that the screws that hold the E1 calipers together are titanium or not? I think they are but I'm not sure

I think this shim is deformable and is there to act as a mean of retaining so it doesn't get loose, not as a spacer. And many other lockrings, internal or external have it. Actually I think all have it

Never mind, per Srams parts catalog they are titanium

Installed E1 yesterday and while the levers are awesome, the calipers look kind of cheap.
The two halfs of the front caliper don't match and have an offset. Rear caliper ist better, but not great as well.
Is it normal?

Yes it is, mine are also like that. This is how they come out of forging probably and as this is not a critical dimension they leave it like that
