New Shimano RT-CL900 and RT-CL800 rotors
Moderator: robbosmans
What do you think abtout the new Shimano RT-CL900 and RT-CL800 rotors?
I'm curious how they perform compared to the XTR rotors.

I bet they still make that "woogoowoogoowoogoo" noise under light / low-speed braking. I hear it every freakin' group ride.
ARM CHAIR ENGINEERING POST
Should've seen it coming.
SM-RT900 has enclosed spider but it has very wide fanblade reducing its aero performance. It was also underbuilt structurally. While it is heavier than XTR rotor, most weight was spent on the fanblade which contribute very little to the structural integrity. This rotor shred heat excellently, however, it doesn't tolerate any heat build up. It warp easily.
RT-MT900 was designed with structural integrity as the priority. It has wider thicker steel brake track and beefier wider spider. Without the large fan blade it is also lighter than the SM-RT900 rotor.
It turns out, even with the less aero spider. The lack of oversized spinning fanblade means the RT-MT900 is still more aero than SM-RT900. https://www.parcours.cc/pages/aerodynamics_disc
Still, when used with new Dura-ace groupset, the skeletal spider look out of place on aero road groupset.
RT-CL900 has low profile outer similar to the RT-MT900 but even shaped a bit smoother. It pair with the enclosed more aero looking spider of the SM-RT900. I'm not surprised it is a bit heavier than SM-RT900 because the spider is less structurally efficient (but possibly more aero).

Anyone with experience with these new RT-CL900 or RT-CL800 rotors?

I like how they make their old rotors look like trash with graphs like that
Now I feel great with 3 sets of RT900 Dur Ace rotors that were anything but cheap

It's not like that kind of thing doesn't happen every time something new comes out. You don't need to go upgrade just because of that.eucalyptus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:33 pmI like how they make their old rotors look like trash with graphs like that

On the other hand, they admit to issue, which ALL manufactures have had in the past!eucalyptus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:33 pmI like how they make their old rotors look like trash with graphs like that

Also, i have used the 9100 and the XTR rotors on 9200 calipers and they have never caused me a single issue. The 10% larger gap is a big difference.

Can you have 12s shifters and calipers on 11s gears?FlatlandClimber wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 3:00 pmOn the other hand, they admit to issue, which ALL manufactures have had in the past!eucalyptus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:33 pmI like how they make their old rotors look like trash with graphs like that

you can use the new calipers on the old shifters. Should give you the 10% more clearance if it actually exists (probably only marketing)NordicSal wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 4:20 pmCan you have 12s shifters and calipers on 11s gears?FlatlandClimber wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 3:00 pmOn the other hand, they admit to issue, which ALL manufactures have had in the past!eucalyptus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:33 pmI like how they make their old rotors look like trash with graphs like that

Have old shifters new calipers on the TT bike and it's not perfect. Road bike is perfect.
