“Different” new Madone (2023)
Moderator: robbosmans
Mattias Skjelmose was riding the new Madone earlier today, winning the fourth stage of Etoile de Besseges. I would have expected him to be on the Emonda given the uphill finish.

i got to weigh an SLR 9 today. DA12 in silver. sz 56. 7.08kg no pedals. not too bad. downtube is very thin. you can squeeze it and it has acoustics that i imagine will be audible.
wasn't impressed with some of the frame finishing. behind the flux capacitor and around the seat wedge was rather rough. paint lines are far from awesome. that exp freehub sure had alot of drag too. maybe the axle was overtorqued. i dunno. merica.
for those curious, apparently FRAMESETS are available. black smoke. $4700 USD, no bars. aero bars seem to be backordered though. not sure about the 2-piece stem. though it looks like they do make an adapter spacer for a normal stem W5311621. maybe there are more bar options through Project 1, not sure.

That's the frame I would have gotten if I went with a Madone 7. I'm glad I got a new S5 instead, which also has shorter reach but looks more normal.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 12:48 amThis is the first 47cm Madone SLR gen 7 that I've seen. I don't think I ever saw a gen 6.

That’s really light, lighter than my 54cm Domane RSL though I am running that honking SL Sprint stem and the Coefficient bars.FactoryMatt wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 2:40 ami got to weigh an SLR 9 today. As for DT hubs potentially binding…very unlikely. The inner races of each bearing press against a lip on the hub axle, a shim or the endcaps. There’s no preloading to be done.
And yeah the black frameset has been in stock since November or so. Same with the Domane RSL frame.

A Trek “combo mount” is merely a dual Blendr mount with the appropriate computer attachment.
I apologize if this came up in the thread earlier (I've read it real time), but is there any semi solid information on whether the listed 28mm max tire size is serious, or whether instead at least some 30s would fit. (I know listed sizes vary in real life depending on the rim width, I'm running pretty standard 21mm internal rims.) I'm not going back to size 28 max.

My Madone size 52 DuraAce also weigh at 7.7kgaprivat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 8:59 pmI have now managed to weigh my Madone. As the hardware was not optimal (it came with a +/- 100 gram disclaimer), the weight should be considered indicative only.
That being said, I repeated the exercise 12 times and half of the times the weight was 7.6 kilos and the other times 7.7 kilos.
The weight included Dura Ace pedals, Garmin mount, bottle cages and a Bontrager umbraco key that I have not been able to remove from the rear wheel.
My initial thinking is that this matches the weight numbers communicated by Trek pretty well given (i) the RSl 62 wheels come with a slide weight penalty over the RSL 51 wheels and (ii) the Trek Segafredo team issue paint job probably being on the slightly heavier side.
Including bottle cages, garmin mount, tail light mount, Favero Assioma Uno power pedals, supacaz bartape, rsl 51 wheels.
I guess the full fade projectOne paint is quite heavy.
watched a unbuild video from some asian channel on YT...
1.2kg for a red 54 frame only... still has chaincatcher, hanger and both upper and lower headset bearing in it.

so maybe a 1000g in black/smoke bare? $4,800 trek made by Giant with sometimes quesitonable build quality (speaking from experience) that doesnt break a kilo? mm

MTBs had poor BB tolerances, poor (metal) bearing seat tolerance, misaligned shock mount, literal cross threaded bottle bosses, and a missized strut/stanchion bushing (on a supercaliber). still great designs and my favorite mtbs of all time fwiw.
and re bolt boss quality, it seems the new one might have that in common with the giant-built-mtbs, per this:
https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bikes ... 23-review/
Often a forgotten detail, I found the bolts and/or the frame recesses appeared to be just slightly out of sync with one another on my test Madone SLR. Each time I needed to set up and move around my bottle cages (or attach the supplied Blendr adaptor to the handlebar), I found myself cringing as I turned the bolts, always feeling as if I might be cross-threading them
