Why the mech 105 is so late? Now 105 is Shimano's top-tier mechanical groupset it requires more R&D to be different than R7000? (knowing XTR 9100 is mechanical only, still using 12sp hyperglide+).

I wonder if Shimano will backtrack on their no more Ultegra mechanical move and release a R8100/R8120?

Should we assume that the 105 Di2 will be 12 speed? I wonder what Shimano will do to differintiate the three Di2 groupsets. I'm sure there will be some weight differnce, but currently that's the only real differnce between Dura Ace and Ultegra 12 Speed. When I heard they were going to release a 105 Di2 I wondered if they would re-badge 11 Speed Ultegra Di2 instead of making it 12 speed.

The pictures say 12-fach which is German for 12 speed

Personally, I'd like them to make 105 Di2 R7170/R7150 12 speed to drive 12 speed cassette adoption and then release a Tiagra Di2 R4870/R4850 11 speed based on that downgraded Ultegra Di2 R8070/R8050 technical base to push electronic shifting to an even lower pricepoint.

Perhaps, they might release 105 12 speed in both Electronic and Mechanical, then Tiagra would be 11 speed mechanical

This make sense
And maybe sora up to 10sp

Then Shimano Will have wider range of choice which really good

And wasn't Dura Ace 12-speed supposed release 2021?

So give it another several months till you can actually get one in mod-2022.

The current Tiagra 4720/4700 is actually an 11 speed groupset in disguise as the levers/derailleurs use 11 speed pull ratios rather than 10 speed.

So if a future Sora R3120/R3100 is indeed derived from the Tiagra 4720/4700 technical base, one could easily throw together a dirt cheap 11 speed groupset with a pair of 11 speed shifters (OEM or even third party like Microshift Centos or Sensah Team Pro).

I see absolutely no point to them doing 105 12s mechanical, especially without complementary Ultegra.

Full groupset prices are roughly just part prices added up. Not much discount in getting all the parts together. So you can add up the values in the first post and be close
