Hi All,

I just gotten a 96 Klein Quantum Pro. :P

It currently have the Chrous 10s groupset that it originally came out of the factory with.

I'm thinking of getting the groupset replaced with a Di2 DA.
Initially was Di2 DA 10s, however after checking the connectors, these are too huge to work.
So now I'm looking at Di2 11s DA.

Have anyone tried fitting their Klein internally with Di2 wires??

I'm not very into expanding/drilling the cable holes for the e-tube to go thru them but if that's the only ”obstacle”, I may embark on it.

The Quantum Pro was like a dream bike since my teens and finally gotten 1.
It will be part of my estate together with my 97 Klein Adroit Koi.

The expected weight would be in the modest 6.xx kg with almost no carbon part on it at the moment.

Cheers,
llpatrick

Not a Klein, but Di2 retrofitting nevertheless.

Do it! I hope you succeed! 🙂

On a side note: DI2'd pre-internal cable routing Klein Quantum: https://www.pedalroom.com/bike/klein-qu ... ol-2-28975. 😎

Don't do it!!! In my opinion, one of the things that make the quantum (and Kleins) so special, is the integrated cable routing. Nowadays nothing special ofcourse, but having a frame from the previous century with integrated cables is just really cool I think, that's why I went with a mechanical modern groupset on mine. If you want electric, I would maybe go with Etap, since I think it will be hard to get the rear di2 wire out without drilling the frame, or you have to stick it under the seatstay.

My red 22 group shifts really good on this frame with Jagwire link cables, and the tactile feeling of it adds to the special feeling of the bike for me.
But it's your call in the end ofcourse ;)

If 12 speed di2 is an option, it uses the EW-SD300 connector which are lot smaller.

Here's a picture of the Klein Quantum Pro that I gotten.

Had its OLD 28mm clinchers replaced witha regular 23mm, will be going back to 28mm later on.
Changed out the Saddle to my personal favourite San Marco Aspide.
Running its stock groupset the Campagnolo 8s Chorus

Bike will be going through a Diet soon, it's WEIGHTweenie here after all.
Going from its current state (w/o pedals) at 8.32kg, to a target 7-7.5kg

1st off:
Easton EC90 Seatpost, Easton EC90 Handlebar, Easton EC90 stem.

Any ideas on how much better I can make the bike lighter?

Fantastic frame!
Is the problem to access the tubes so you can place the junction boxes or the battery ? How is it inside?

I have the older 7970 set on another bike and this groupset does sit comfortablely with this bike it's going to run the whole cableset on the outside of the frame. Unless I go into some sort of hacking for the wiring to reduce the connectors' size.

I have the 11 Speed Di2 which seems to be able to run internally BUT part of cables, for the Front & Rear Ders will still be external.
Battery will be sitting inside the Seatpost.

I'm still into the 10speed setup, as all my other 700c bikes are all on 10Speed + Rim brakes, so that allows easy swapping of wheels in between the 4 bikes.

Ultegra 6770 derailleurs would get you 10 speed compatibility while offering the e-tube wiring in place of the 7970 connectors/heat-shrink. Depending on how small the cable port is for the FD you may be able to cut and resolder an e-tube wire thru for a bit cleaner install.

OMG, that's a perfect Klein, absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't drill anything on that personally, but I would change out the Chorus to Record or Super Record, or even Dura Ace 7900/9000 mechanical.

As per the current options, I am getting more and more keen on running the 7900 Mechanical set for this beauty.

Man, I would highly recommend 9000 (9001), just because the shifting is so much better than 7900. Otherwise, it's a beautiful bike!

Be aware that you have to get creative if you want non square taper cranks. I think there's companies making adapters, but this kind of press fit bottombracket is not very usual and it will be a bit of a challenge to run for example a hollowtech crankset. Beauty of a frame by the way!

To avoid splicing and solder wires, could you use this adapter to allow the new small wires for the internal runs and connect to the older Di2 groupset?

I can’t remember when but post trek acquisition, they switched to bsa bottom brackets. But the above poster is right. If you have a press fit BB you might be limited in your crank choices. Try Phil wood. I think they used to make a Klein BB for hollow tech
