The numbers quoted are quite high and I think paint quality and technology has improved greatly since the above thread. So a better quality of finish is achievable to day with less paint and clear coat than years ago.

However I still think it would be easy to save 50-100g by removing coloured or white paint and clear coat. However clear coat would still need to be applied again and also graphics, even if minimal.

They only have limited info, they saw some drawings but that's mostly it so far. They have some on order.

105 Di2 was supposed to bring electronic shifting to the masses, but the reality is that these new bikes that equip it are more expensive than the equivalent similar bikes with 11s Ultegra Di2 that we had just 2-3 years ago. Not exactly what I would call progress.

In some conversations I had with Factor and the Ostro VAM 61cm frame, I think they said around ~110g can be saved with their nude carbon finish. Curious to hear input from others too.

That's quite a large number. Makes me wish more companies went minimalist paint...

I was responding to a comment of the rumored price of a complete bike, and comparing with past prices of complete bikes. The RRP of the groupset isn't necessarily the best metric here, because it can be very different from both the OEM price (which is what ends up influencing the final bike price) and street price of separate components. I just found an old german catalogue and the 2017 TCR Advanced Pro Disc with Ultegra Di2 was 4199€. For the Propel the two models with Ultegra Di2 are 2999€ and 4799€.

So here's data and facts. I was simply pointing out that 105 Di2 isn't really lowering price point at which you can get electronic shifting compared to where it was a few years ago, I don't see the reason to get so defensive about that.

Yeah, but even then, it's hard to argue that 105 Di2 made electronic bikes cheaper, if they aren't substantially cheaper than they have been in the past. 105 used to be the groupset for "accessible" bikes well below 2000€, and 105 Di2 won't bring electronic to that market.
