I've casually worked on motorcycles, and the difference between Japanese and Italian bikes was striking. It wasn't so much from the engineering itself but the philosophy of things and decisions from which everything else flowed. That's cultural, and it's not unreasonable to apply these observations and experiences to other subsets of the same culture.

Apply all you want, it's not unreasonable to form a personal opinion based on personal experience. What is unreasonable is to then assume that these N=1 (ie, 1 person) observations could become universal truths.

Never suggested it was universal or something approaching the concept of truth, which you might appreciate is a personally subjective evaluation of reality based on an almost infinite amount of variables leading up to that, and hence why multiple seemingly paradoxical truths can coexist from one instance/event of reality. So lets not go there.

Edit: please refer exhibit a, would be interested to see the metrics quantitatively supporting the ideas going on here. Share them if you find them.

Same idea behind the F1 side mirrors, reducing drag of a bluff body. The flow going around the outside of the deflector semi constrains the wake of the internal flow

V4Rs?

After I heard Colnago was poised to win the Tour de France, the V4RS debuted on the Champs Elysees...

I just read they have 5 different protypes (layups) and when assessment is complete, the bike might be available summer 2023.
I wonder what the frameset will cost in times like these.

I'm sure your 100% spot on.

However after riding the kinekt body float, redshift seat post and thud buster...The current gen Roubaix nailed the rear end compliance with their seat post, lowered stays, and flex within the fin-shaped design at the rear.


Sure the suspension seatpost offer more travel, but the movement on the Roubaix is more natural and feels buttery smooth.

Adding suspension, imo, adds uneccessay weight and potentially issues with saddle movent.

This probably belongs on a 2024 thread at this point but LBS confirmed to me that we'll get the new SuperSix next year and as folks have speculated it'll be primarily focussed on making it more aero. Didn't get to see any pictures but he said it's most similar to the SL7 or new Propel.

I was told Specialized will update Tarmac and Roubaix in 2023.
My guess is the pandemic and parts shortage threw them off their plan.
My wish list for tarmac is a bit narrower hood width on their bar.
I find the width in the drop of a 42 bar to be good but the hood felt a bit too wide.
I also think the chain stay length if 410mm could be reduced to 405mm.

The idea that you would ever buy a bike on which you couldn't swap/choose the bars just seems perverse to me..

So i stumbled on this surfing the webs. The new Koga Kinsei roadbike. Scheduled for 2023. It's inspired by the very succesfull Koga Kinsei track bike. Apparently it comes in three versions, which vary in the agressivness of the seat position. I think you can see all three versions here.

The Parlee Altum Disc is being updated. The update I hard about was to bring over the integrated cabling from the RZ7. Not sure if it will use the exact same parts of the RZ7, but it will be similar in concept. I imagine this upgrade would also make the Altum compatible with the Pro Vibe Evo aero bar like the RZ7 is. I don't know if they will be increasing the tire clearance, but that would be welcome.
