New Lake CX302 Shoes
Moderator: robbosmans
Lake have replaced their lightweight model CX301 with the CX302. Just received my pair (size 45 Extra Wide) in a rather nice metallic black finish:
They address my issue with the CX301, which was the single BOA loosening over time. They've also added a cats tongue finish to the heel. Same super stiff sole. They have gained some weight - my pair are 255g per shoe. There is also slightly more room (height and width) in the toe box.
Cheers, Dave

The strong point of CX301 was indeed weight and at 255 yours aren't exactly porky but nor lightweight.
It would be nice to see a weight in a smaller size to have an idea.
The finish is pretty nice.

Are the vents on the sides see-through, and do they look cleanable? Just wondering how the white model would fare over time.

Reminds me of the Giro Imperial vents, which are very see-through. The thicker strands on the Imperial are tough, but the thinner material used primarily as covering does abrade with time.

Yes, hence my question. I don't like the new Empire SLX/Imperial uppers, including those vents. Prior generation Empire SLX was just better, IMO.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 9:18 pmaeroisnteverything wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:14 pmAre the vents on the sides see-through, and do they look cleanable? In my case the Syncwire material upper is definitely better at least fit wise than the previous modells. I have had foot pain issues and it seems this material is working the best for me in terms of fit.aeroisnteverything wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 11:30 amYes, hence my question. When I saw the pic at first, I thought they were the Imperials.

I had the exact opposite experience, but that just tells you how individual fit is. My bigger issue is that when I did a 200+ km ride in black Imperials on a hot English day (yes we do have them sometimes), I had to stop twice and take off my shoes in order to cool off my feet as they were absolutely on fire. This is despite the purportedly ample ventilation. Never had this problem in Lake CX301s or Empire SLX (both white - might have something to do with it ).Roadbiker10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 12:43 pm

In any case though, these 302s look to have the same material in the upper as the 301s, except the side vents, so I expect the white version to be fine cooling-wise. Just worried about the vents becoming soiled very quickly.
Heel retention is better, as they now have a 'cat's tongue' finish on the heel, which the CX301s do not.
True, but they are dual BOA which makes a big difference to the security of the fit, together with the new treatment on the heel. I've converted both my CX301 pairs to laces, which makes them materially more secure (and slightly lighter), as I got fed up of the BOA loosening off every ride.
Great idea - photos pleaseda123 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:22 pmTrue, but they are dual BOA which makes a big difference to the security of the fit, together with the new treatment on the heel. This is one pair. The other pair I have (yellow) are currently with Jarpz being custom painted:Gary71 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:07 pmGreat idea - photos pleaseda123 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:22 pmTrue, but they are dual BOA which makes a big difference to the security of the fit, together with the new treatment on the heel. Good job! I like this lace modification. I will go to modify mine too. The single BOA setting on CX301 is not quite secure enough. Most of time it is tight at the rear side but loose at the front side.da123 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:57 pmThis is one pair.
