Nice work...., (showing my ignorance now) I'm guessing you can get the lace hole punch thingy at any habidashary store ???? Or did you have to take it to a Mr Minute (cobbler)da123 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:57 pmThis is one pair. I've converted both my CX301 pairs to laces, which makes them materially more secure (and slightly lighter), as I got fed up of the BOA loosening off every ride.

New Lake CX302 Shoes

Hi. I actually sent it off to a shoe repair place I found online. Can dig out the details if you like, but suspect there's a few. Think it cost about £40 including adding padding to the tongue (my feet are wide, bit low volume, so this helped with the fit). I wouldn't have done it myself given the removal of the BOA. If you do have it done, I'd recommend having eyelets just on the top three holes, and making sure they use the most secure eyelets they have so that they don't work loose.Gary71 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 10:29 amNice work...., (showing my ignorance now) I'm guessing you can get the lace hole punch thingy at any habidashary store ???? Did you get your shoes converted? My other pair has just come back - photo below which shows the lace conversion a bit betterGary71 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 10:29 amNice work...., (showing my ignorance now) I'm guessing you can get the lace hole punch thingy at any habidashary store ???? I don't remove the base plate of the BOA, because I don't have meterial to fill the hole.da123 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:03 pmNice job! Like itoldmac wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 6:48 amI just simply remove the BOA knot and make two holes for the lace,5 minutes work, job done.

The lace version CX301 feels much better than the original one, very secure and comfort.

Got to try on a pair of CX302s (regular fit) at Sea Otter. They're very, very comfortable on my narrow and low-volume feet. The upper is a thin/flexible micro-textile without feeling fragile. I really like the stretchy woven tongue. They fit me a lot better than CX332s, which have such a high ankle collar that it cuts against the bony process on my ankles.
How would you say the heel retention is please?TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:07 amGot to try on a pair of CX302s (regular fit) at Sea Otter. Not as good as my Gaerne and Giro shoes, but still miles ahead of most other shoes. I haven’t had any issues sprinting in them.
Thanks, because heel hold in a lot of the Lakes has been a massive negative for me previously.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:02 pmtommyboyo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 11:37 amHow would you say the heel retention is please?TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:07 amGot to try on a pair of CX302s (regular fit) at Sea Otter. There's a cat's tongue material on the heel which provides a lot more hold than the 301s.tommyboyo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:34 pmThanks, because heel hold in a lot of the Lakes has been a massive negative for me previously.TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:02 pmtommyboyo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 11:37 amHow would you say the heel retention is please?TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:07 amGot to try on a pair of CX302s (regular fit) at Sea Otter. Lake claims the 302 allows one's big toe to be straighter in these shoes. Is that so? My feet are very wide across the toes and my big toe doesn't like being forced inward just to fit in pointy-toed shoes (which is almost all cycling shoes). I'd love a shoe that is wide at the toe, like the CX 201, but didn't force one's toes into an unnatural inward position like the CX 302.

Yes, though even the extra wide in the 302 isn't that spacious. Having both the CX302 (45 in extra wide) and the Specialized s works torch (44.5 regular), I'd say the Spesh has more room in the forefoot (not masses, but it is noticeable, both visually and in use).oldmac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 12:21 pmCX302 has wide and extra wide versions.PoorInRichfield wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 1:18 pmLake claims the 302 allows one's big toe to be straighter in these shoes. Interesting. I don't suppose you could post a side-by-side comparison picture of the two shoes? Ironically, my road shoes are Specialized Torch 2.0 in wide... I'm not sure how they compare to the S-Works model. The Torch 2.0 isn't really all that wide, but seems about the same as my Lake CX237s in the toe area.da123 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 12:57 pmYes, though even the extra wide in the 302 isn't that spacious.
