Game over for rim - Froome endorses discs.

It's somewhat interesting how this comes AFTER he becomes an investor in Factor bikes
What difference does it make?

Yeah - in wet, results would have been completely different.
A while ago GCN did a small sample test....down a long technical col ( the runs were about 8 1/2 minutes if memory serves me well )...in both the dry and the rain.

Of course the dry times were faster than the wet ....but the differences in both weather conditions btween the two brake types was of the order of a few seconds....rim faster slightly in the dry, disc slightly faster in the wet....read, almost negligible either way.

Cheers

Cause it seems at first blush at least, just another example, though in this case possibly a minor one, being late to the show as it is, that a major driving force in the selling of the disc revoltion may well be Big Money from the Big Bike Industrial Complex....yeah that may seem cynical but one has to admit the circumstances/timing here was odd....just sayin eh....

Cheers

At the least, it hints at him now having quite a bit more of a financial incentive for encouraging folks to buy all-new bikes. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case, just that the "optics" just aren't the best :noidea:

That's why it was so refreshing when Froomey expressed his real thoughts on disc brake via his YouTube channel. I still hope he will influence Factor with more rim development though. They came around last year and gave riders rim brake bikes, after going all in on disc a while back. I believe several ISN riders ended TdF with rim brake in 2021. Hope they continue to choose rim brake on the mountain stages.

why is it refreshing ? real thoughts ?? :noidea:

..cant have it both ways now. Either way he can be painted as a lying sack of shite depending on how you see it.

Complete nonsense. Factor has never been "all in on disc."

That's the way the "Big Bike Disc Brake Conspiracy" works. Professional riders that prefer rim brakes are telling the truth, but professional riders that prefer disc brakes are corporate shills. Froome has just become the latter -- there are no exceptions.

Froome has a financial stake in a company that produces both rim brake bikes and disc brake bikes. The "optics" is that he benefits from the sale of either.

Though going forward it is very likely the market will become all disc all the time....so it could be seen as simply a cynical move that is good for the pocket book...I mean he could have invested in something he actually believed in....

Cheers

Yup that certainly is pretty wild....and as long as we are at the intersection of Froome and wild any thoughts on that wild bilharzia story ?....

Cheers

Up and coming discs may win me over, current gen sucks. Yes I am in agreement with Froomey.

Poor Froomie. He's gone from the darling of rim brake diehards to a pariah overnight.

Almost like my comparison of never-disc to right-wing and religious extremists. The analogy keeps getting better.
