There is no doubt that the available 11spd groupsets work fantastically but it has to be 12spd if you want maximum future proofing. I would go SRAM to avoid drilling the frame; external Di2 harnesses would be giving up a key benefit of electronic.
Why?? It's just not necessary to use the Sram cassette for etap 11. There are so many 100% compatible alternatives. The same goes for the crankset, rings and chain.
In the future there may also be etap 11 compatible derailleurs and levers from the Chinese components companies which are moving into the electronic groupset market.
Well, it is the lightest long-wearing 11 speed cassette, it doesn't break like the DA cassettes, there aren't any reasons not to use it, in fact. Except maybe the price.
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:
Aero bike | GC bike | GC rim bike | Climbing bike | Climbing rim bike | Classics bike | Gravel bike | TT bike | Indoors bike

DA cassettes break? Never experienced that ever...please elaborate more?mrlobber wrote:Well, it is the lightest long-wearing 11 speed cassette, it doesn't break like the DA cassettes, there aren't any reasons not to use it, in fact. Except maybe the price.

Additional problem is that DA cassettes are eating / biting the HG driver body much more than single design sram red cassette.
The xg1190 is great cassette and even di2 users are purchasing these cassettes for their builds.

11s red etap is really great groupset, very light, but not futureproof indeed.
The prices of second hand 11s spare parts went up so allowed me to sell my 11s groupset and purchase slightly used 12s RED AXS with minimal price difference.

Sram Force AXS looks like a good option. I have to read more about cassette compatibility and long term reviews (with my wheels).NickJHP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:21 amI'm very happy with Red eTap 11s - have had it on two bikes for several years. However, as others have pointed out, it can no longer be purchased new, and spare parts are likely to be a problem in the future, so I wouldn't recommend it if you are purchasing now. A couple of friends installed Force AXS eTap 2x12 on their existing rim brake bikes, which had been running 11s, but just purchased the shifters and derailleurs, they didn't bother with the SRAM chain/cassette/cranks. They used ZTTO 12s cassettes (which fit on Shimano HG freehubs, so they could use their existing wheels), ZTTO 12s chain, and kept their existing cranks. It all seems to work fine.
Can't comment on Shimano or Campagnolo electronic shifting, as I've never used either.
